short answer - No - all pre Disco II chasis rails are the same distance apart - and the same outside width - right form 1949 to the present day on Defenders

I have given consideration to rotating the starter but would probably weld the aluminium flange on the starter before (as Matt has done) welding/brazing studs to the cast iron flywheel housing.

I would be interested to know what starter you have, as it could save me cutting my new (to me) chassis. Hmm, maybe the landie isuzu has a different tooth pitch on the ring gear and pinion may be incompatible

Edit: BTW, I meant to add compliments for your work on the adaptors
    Further to my previous post:

I have recently swapped to a 110 chassis and while doing so, I offset the engine a little closer to centreline of vehicle so my 24V truck starter motor clears the chassis rails.

How does this impact on the steering box clearance? I think my steering box and the front diff head are the two tight spots for my engine moving right. The diff head is only a concern for me as my vehicle is lower than most on here. My steering box is also 3 bolt which might protrude more than the 4 bolt.

My 110 has plenty of PAS box clearance (but it is 4-bolt). The factory isuzu 110s have 1" thick blocks welded to the chassis to space the bump stops down do the diff doesn't hit.

I wanted the engine as far back and as low as I could get it.

It is far enough back for the power steering pump to be behind a rover steering box - pump and front pulleys are above the axle.

But I had fitted a different steering box outside the chassis rail many years ago when I had landcruiser axle/steering links. I moved this steering box from my rangie chassis to the 110 chassis during the current swap (still in progress).

I can't go any further right than it is now because of clearance between t/case and chassis rail.

None helpful to others here because my truck is so different.

Here are 2 showing what was discussed in my previous 2 posts in this thread, another slightly on topic (part of Isuzu gearbox can be seen), and one of my turbo in position for start of manifold fabrication.

Not for help, just for me to sticky nose at

You should start a thread with pics of your projects, all sounds very interesting

Those pics clear up a whole lot of questions I had. Looks like you've got a manifold to build too. I was wondering where those turbos were going to fit.
