    Hi Murray

I get confused about what LHS means.

I think the RR manual had the LHS as you look from the front.

I guess you mean the passenger side.

What should I be looking for in the casting.

    What size is the 4BBI.

Not sure it would be much smaller than the 4BDI.

Rog S and I had a drag up the steep Fitzimmons Lane hill after Dec Meeting and I left him eating our dust

I do have the D gas injection happening but he has the 3.9 4BDI

Looking forward to a weekend trip.

Let's do it in the milder weather.

NO ac or heater currently fitted.

    Pete

    G'day Pete,
Yeah, passenger side of the engine block, just above the sump. The engine type is cast into the block......easy to see, fairly big letters.
The 4BB1 is 3.6 litres. Same block as the 4BD1(T), but shorter stroke and possibly other minor differences. I've heard the 4BB1 referred to as the 'High Output' version because it revs a bit higher due to the shorter stroke.

My turbo and intercooler take up the space where my A/C used to be, so a mild weather trip would suit me too

    Cheers, Murray

    Sure that's not the 4BE1?
The 4BE1 replaced the 4BB1 and I think it produced more than the non turbo 4BD1, hence high output. I'm looking for specs but not having much luck. The best I've found so far is 110hp references.

I suspect you are correct. 4BE1 had almost as much power output as a (stock) 4BD1T, but the same torque as a 4BD1.
plenty of previous posts on here with specs and details:

A comparison of the 4BD1, 4BE1, 4BD1T is as follows

Model kW @rpm Nm @rpm litres
    Isuzu 4BD1 66 3200 245 1900 3900
    Isuzu 4BE1 74 3500 242 2000 3600
    Isuzu 4BD1T 90 3200 314 2200 3900

The 4BE1 was found in the NKR Models (150,200,250,300 & 400).

I don't have any manuals despite looking from time to time to buy second hand.

Quite like the engine. I've never been able to tell it apart performance wise from the few 4BD1's I've driven, but my mechanic tells me the extra 300 RPM in the redline for the "E" is an improvement over the "D" on the highway.

I run an LT-95 gearbox with the 0.996 transfer case ratio. Cruises at 100 OK but when I towed my Camper Trailer around Oz, certainly was tricky overtaking and a slow on hills.

My 110 was originally a V8 and the conversion was done by the previous owner. Donor engine was from a 1989 NKR Council truck that had rolled.

    The 4BB1 produced 72BHP (54kw) in most configurations, and was not a very high revving engine. It also has a bore/stroke of 102/110mm whereas the 4BE1 is 105/105mm. 4BB1 is 3595cm³, 4BE1 - 3636cm³.

The 4BE1 was the first of the more modern higher revving high output isuzu diesels.

Yeah, I did mean 4BE1. There's been a couple in our club. Obviously they fit the same as a 4BD1.

My current gearbox was originally bolted to a 4BE1. They use a 250mm clutch compared to the 300mm clutch of the 88 onwards 4BD1T's.

My County was formerly owned by isuzu110 and has the 4BE1 fitted as his quote above. I find it performs really well but just lacks a bit of ooomph on hills

As you know I'm hoping to convert it to a two stroke diesel with the redd system from www.rotecdesign.com

I'm told it will give it some ooomph uphills

Can anybody explain the 0.996 transfer case ?? is this different to standard ??

As I understand it these redd systems are designed to improve emissions. If you want power, a turbo would be better.

0.996:1 in the LT95 and 1.003:1 in the LT230 are the stand ratios. However some people have fitted 1.22:1 in the LT230 and are happy, but it would be hard to live with in an LT95.
