    Hi Col 110

The viewing arc is defined in the ADR for the direction indicator lamps (Australian Design Rule 13/00 Installation of Lighting and Light Signalling Devices on other than L-Group Vehicles, Appendix A ? UNECE R48/02) and is stated as 45deg either side of the front if side lamps are fitted.

This arc must be free of obstructions to be compliant. "To be considered visible, the lamp must provide an unobstructed view of the apparent surface of at least 12.5 square centimetres..."

Under the Supplementary General Requirements section they state:

"Where the installation of equipment or accessories for operational reasons invalidates the compliance of lamps originally fitted in accordance with this vehicle standard, additional lamps must be fitted to maintain compliance." I believe that this is why ARB have the repeater lamps set in their bars.

I was keen on buying the same bar as Lonerangers in the previous post, however I'm swayed towards the ARB bar as I can't see how this bar complies with the lighting requirement.

My concerns are more around insurance clauses in case of an accident. I wouldn't want my vehicle to be deemed non road worthy. On the over hand I wouldn't expect to get pulled over on the road side.

I don't really like the ARB bar as it eats into your approach angle, on my old D2 I called it the plough...

Maybe ARB are just being cautious. Anyway, I'll have to decide one way or the other soon...

    Cheers
    Ron

    Hi Ron,

Our bars come with driving lights in the bar. It would probably be easy enough to pull them out and insert indicators. If they are available you could probably drop in dual park/indicator lights and the wiring shouldn't be too hard. If you have Drivesafe's relay kit they would just connect straight to the relay.

When I bought the first one I had concerns about the ADR compliance and Murray had made modifications as a result of one of the bars going over the pits here in WA not sure if they checked the lights though.

    Cheers

I am just going off this document - http://roadsafety.transport.nsw.gov....tolerances.pdf - and the bar would tick off all the boxes in that check list.

However - I do appreciate your point that there might be other regulations it needs to adhere to so I'll leave it that.

I looked at the ARB bar and I couldn't buy it - I think your description of it being a plough is spot on :-)

If the only reason to buy the ARB bar is because it has 'built in indicators' then I would ask Murray to fit indicators into the bar :-)

    I appreciate your replies.

    Cheers,
    Col.

I have had discussions about fitting the bars to Perenties, but haven't actually gone ahead with anything yet.
Given the front chassis is the standard width, it shouldn't be too difficult to modify the bar mounts to fit the Perentie chassis mounting points.
