You can buy spacers 3mm from Autobarn that should fit for about $20 a pair. They have heaps of different sizes both hubs/ spacing etc. Be surprised if you couldnít find something to fit.

I have taken cars through inspection before with spacers without issue. The key is they must be securely fastened to the hub and wheel bolts/studs meet minimum thread engagement or new bolts/studs used to offset the change. Also the wheel must still be contained within the body of the vehicle.
Ones the simply sit there arenít technically legal as you indicate.

Admittedly itís also possible regulations have changed over the past 20 years.

No mate - you might have got away with it but unless they are a OEM fit they are simply illegal in all states.

For an expensive vehicle it is just not worth the hassle if there is an accident and you get caught out.

Update on the Discovery 5 TuffAnt 18s

Firstly, thanks to all for your patience on an update. These things always take longer than expected but we need to ensure we get this right each time. This has been made harder sadly due to the changing part numbers for the rear brakes on the new D5. With reports of different callipers being fitted itís been hard to know exactly what will and wonít work.

A huge thanks to all the people that have helped with photos, part numbers, test fittings, from all over Australia and the UK.

The long story short is that we need to engineer a new rim profile from scratch. The disc face will look the same as the current wheel, with about a 20mm less offset (so the wheel is about 20mm further out than the current wheel). This process takes about 60 days plus the production time, so we are looking about 90-120 days before the wheels would be in Australia depending on when we can fit in the production cycle.

The good news is that the new wheels will also build on some improvements from the current wheel. They should be a higher load rating (simply due to the less offset) and we have made other minor improvements to make them a little easier to balance.

From next week TuffAnt will have the new wheel available for pre-order on the website. Those willing to pre-order will receive a special reduced price. As with the first wheel, these Pre-Orders come with a moneyback guarantee if we canít deliver as promised or you change your mind prior to the arrival.

They looked good against the Blue when I sat a set beside the car. I think they'll look good on it. I'm going to put the Falken Tyre's on and see how they go. They're AT's, so not too aggressive, about the same I guess as the Nitto's I had, so shouldn't be noisy, and should have plenty of grip when I need it. And yes, best of all, extra sidewall to be able to let them down properly.
