    Looking good Andrew.

But you must be kicking yourself that you originally designed it as a tipper now that you've decided to use it as a camper trailer only. Oh well - I suppose somebody will always be able to use the hydraulics to get you out of bed in the mornings.

We were just about to get rid of our camper and buy a Jayco Expanda, but I'm starting in a new job at the moment, so the holiday is over - will put that off until a bit later when we are more likely to use it. In the meantime, the old camper will do us, and I've just fitted a Black Widow awning to the side of the Disco - so we can still get about on short trips when I get time off.

Looking forward to seeing the photos of the finished product.
    Cheers .........

Ive removed the hydraulics and bolted the trailer solid.
Will put them on another trailer in the future.

    DISSAPOINTMENT!!!!
Despite my best efforts the boat rack wont work.I had it out of the shed today and tried several combinations of the gas struts. The longer ones to close the rack work in the 4x2000n combo, drop back to 2x2000n and its too hard to get the rack to shift. The 4x2000n setup was copied from 2 different commercial Camper Trailers.
Where mine fails its not possible the get the correct angle for the 4x500n short struts. My trailer is bigger than the tent so its not possible to get the required fulcrum angle to make it happen. It actually self opens about 500mm,but then requires MaxiMe standing on the trailer and me tugging on a rope to go the full opening.
Ive decided to can the roofrack, just now need to re-invent the solar setup
Plus I know have $600+ worth of gas struts
Never mind,I thought the rack looked ugly anyway

Bugger about the setup... but did i understand correctly that with 4 x 2000N there is too much lifting force and with only 2 x 2000N not enough? Is it possible to let some of the magic out of the struts?? Make them 1500N struts?

Eitherway, Im sure youll come up witha good use for the struts one day!!!!

Bugger! Sorry to see the disappointment. I’ve been watch this with interest as I’m in the process of starting a boat loading and rack system for mine.

FWIW... instead of a 'direct connect'... is there room for a cantilever connection for the 4 x 500nm struts so as to get the correct fulcrum angle?

Unfortunately not.Looked at copying a TrackShak lifter just cant do it the way my trailer is set up.

    Steve
I looked at 4 or 5 racks, all were different design but used similar load ratings on the struts.I need to get a better angle on the short struts to make it work.

Ive cut the rack up,no more dinghy rack(WANT A BOAT NOT A DINGHY CANT HAVE BOTH),will be using parts of it for a solar panel rack and jerry can rack.Started work on it,this weekends project,HOPEFULLY.

Finally sorted a solar panel rack, tacked it to the trailer to test it out.

    Transport position,over the tent.

To set up camp, simply slide the panels forward.

Depending on where the sun is the panels can remain flat or tilt to either side.

The panels are secured by 3 removable rods,if its a shady campsite the panels can be simply removed from the trailer and put in the sun.

Just need to add 2 handles to make sliding easier and creat a telescopic stay to hold the panels in position.
