Thread: Dual-cab Defender 130 water tank - dimensions?

Well, after some inspections and discussion this morning, we're going with a poly tank, probably from Atlas, to fit within the smallest under-seat dimension to fit both a Puma and 94 model 130 HCPU.

Basically, the more people who are interested the cheaper it gets. At this stage, it appears to be ~$350 mark (if my memory serves me).

We probably won't be doing anything for a couple of weeks, so if anyone else is interested in a group-buy, let me know. I'll post the dimensions we decide upon when we get them.

It sounded like a great idea, so I contacted Atlas tanks on (07) 5438 2310 in March 2012. No they don't have a mould. Would take 2-3 weeks to build, and you end up with 55 litres useable capacity. Killer for me was cost $522 inc GST. Shame one of their standard tanks don't fit.

Hi. Just my thoughts here.. I'd be keen on one of these tanks if you manage to get some made.. Filler and outlet on the left are logical from a 'safe side' point of view and would make little difference once set up on camp. My thoughts are a drain plug on the left, dropping through the seat base to the floor, 1/2" (13mm) internal filler to save drilling external holes, 3/4" (19mm) overflow also draining to the floor with oneway valve.... Even a forgotten garden hose will split a plastic tank.. It would be worth considering keeping all these inlet/outlets within the confines of the seatbox so each purchacer can choose the location of the in/outlets.. Re pumps, 'Surflow' and 'Whale' are good and I've fitted both of these to many a horse float in the uk. Spent the long weekend in the Flinders and Skytrack.. 2 of us used 40 litres of water over the 4 days, inc washing up! Showers were elsewhere...

Chris at Abber tanks will make what you request and put what inlets and outlets where you like.

Mine all were placed on the left because it suited. In hind sight another breather on the other side would help with eliminating air locks.
Perhaps carry a spare tap that can be fitted and clamped into a line incase the pump fails. I have had this happen and had all the water locked in the tank.
I used Butyl corking (not pictured) to dust proof the holes in the floor.

Hi Thanks Newhue that is a neat looking tank. Thanks for the advice I contacted chris at Abber tanks - very reasonable price. I was just planning on getting a simple rectangle shape tank made. Yours looks very fancy. Do you have the dimensions, or a drawing? I guess yours went into a Puma? Thanks Alan

mmm no not any more, Ranga may, but Chris from Abber should I'd imagine. The bevel on the front is for a TDci, and maybe a Td5. The bevel is for the rear seat mount bolts. The Tdi is just a rectangle box.

Chris will most likely supply and have it delivered to your door within a week. You could pull your seat out and measure up, then whack it all back together again within 7 days or close to.

now that i have brakes fitted i can just keep loading her up with weight
