When? Defer Vented rotors & 24spline front diff.

My 150 has solid brake rotors and I'd like to fit ventilated rotors and eventually a Truetrack to the front diff.

Can anyone tell me when the defender got these items and are there other issues to consider like good and bad CV joints?

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

Defenders I belive got the vented front rotors when the 300 Tdi came out as well as getting the 24 spline diffs etc. Mine is built in 94 but a 95MY and came with the 300Tdi, R380, vented fronts etc. As for the CVs that came with these defenders they are the less desireable ones. I have had mine changed but it involved using a spacer to make up for the narrower spacing in the hub bearings and therefore more shaftsticking out the drive flange on the wheel.

Earlier CV's are much stronger though (AEU2522, which AFAIK is NLA OEM.
    Don't you love acronym's )

Later CV's use a tiny 32 spline inner axle/cv connection, in use since approx. '88 according o my Maxi catalogue.

A year for these changes would be good.

But I guess you're telling me that an early Defender (not county/110) has the worst of all worlds, little CVs, 10 spline diff, solid rotors, rear drum brakes and LT77 on a 3.5 carby V8!

At least I have a Salisbury rear diff and not the P38a front diff.

My 86 county has solid discs and I just been collecting the bit to change to vented-
    2-vented discs
1-pin kit with springs(longer for spacers)
4-spacers to fit in the calipers
    8-seals for the spacers
1-set of disc pads, same shape as county ones but with 2 tabs on each pad to use later pins
    I hope it all works.

The early Defenders with 200Tdi in this country up until the rear disc brake version in 1994 (just before the 300 tdi) had the big AEU2522 CV and 10 spline front inner axles. These are easily identified as they use the same longer axle drive flanges as the 110, but metric bolts holding them to the hub.

Close no aus early defenders with a 3.5

P38 style diff was only fitted to the rear of late defenders, never front

94 I think for vented, on ranges atleast

    What's the 150?

It's a UK home market/Land Rover Special Vehicles build 150 (6X6) V8 AFAIK 1991MY one of a contract for "Southern Electricity" as a cherry picker. Was imported in 2001 second-hand and subsequently disassembled to repaint the chassis but never reassembled.

I acquired it sans cherry picker, as a deceased estate. Would like to make something like this:

FYI its essentially a 110 with a second coil sprung rear axle fitted 40" behind the original. It is also a constant 6X6 with a 4th diff (or is it 5th) in the power-divider.
