Ah!- was that you? I came to this thread to comment on the exchange! Nice looking dark green dual cab 130 I think.

100% wave return over the weekend during a drive down to the Otways for a bit of a play. Three 110s and a couple of 90s.

Even got a raised finger off the wheel from a Disco2 driver on the way to work this morning!

Came here to say that I'm a new Land Rover owner (Defender) and the first time I encountered this was from another Defender driving past. Had no idea this was a thing but I (almost) always spot Defenders driving past and now they're waving.
I've had many wave backs and a few I've caught too late. Driving on the Burwood Highway last week I had a white Defender pull up behind me, even slowed down so I could wave as he drove past.
Had no idea the wave was a "Land Rover" thing but will definitely be keeping my eye out for all of them now.

I used to drive an MG. The wave was universal, you saw an MG, no matter which, you waved ( in fact it was a polite two fingered salute ). Sadly, Defender drivers only wave at Defenders ( OK, they wave at my Series ). How about waving at Discos? OK, these days it's hard, when a RR looks like a Ford Territory... , but a D2 is a Land Rover, OK? Wave at it. I wave at you.

I learnt to drive in 1973 in a ‘54 MGTF 1250. Not only did you wave but often stop and have a chat!

I tend to get about 30% return waves from D1's and D2's. It seems the more they are modified(fat tyres, lift kits) the more waves.

Zero from later Discos and RR's.

Got a wave from a G-Wagen the other day, surprised me at first, then I thought probably an ex Defender driver, he knew about the wave anyway.

Waved enthusiastically at 2 Defenders south of Whyalla the other day, met with quizzical looks and nothing else.

Then again I was in my Work Toyota Where's the Defender wave gone?

Tried to call them on UHF 40 and got nothing...

Got a wave yesterday from a couple in a dark Puma 110 at Coronation Beach WA. NSW reg. from memory. Got ignored by a wind surfer with a Vic reg. dark 110 in the same place.... must be the D4 that does it.

Yeah, that's been a thing for me too.....in work cars or whatever and unable to properly communicate with passing Series vehicles and Defenders, waving at them, getting no response and being left with an empty, crushing, rejected feeling: thrown out of the herd. I have thought maybe I should keep a small sign on the dash, which I can hold up as Landies pass, saying "Landy Fan" or "I asked my boss to buy Defenders".
