I bought 5 new tyres for my 300 Tdi project vehicle, but the tyre shop was unable to balance the wheels as the centres in the Dynamic rims (which were on the vehicle when I bought it) are about 1/2 an inch wider than the standard Defender rim and they didn't fit their balancing machine.

This photo is with the Dynamic rim on the 300 Tdi.

and the second is my Td5 on standard rims (they are both running heavy duty axles and hubs) and it is quite clear the Dynamic's are bigger.

The guy at the place said that 90% of tyre fitting places would not have the larger attachment to enable balancing these.. This surprised me as was the fact he didn't have the attachment as this was a large and busy tyre business with lots of 4WD's coming and going.

However driving the 40kms home after the fitting with unbalance wheels, all seemed fine though I would certainly like to get them balanced.

Perhaps worth commenting that the practice of balancing tyres except on high performance cars is relatively new - almost unheard of on four wheel drives when I first owned Series vehicles.

Yes, I have owned a couple of series 1’s and a series 3 over the last 40 years and I don’t recall if we ever got the bar treads balanced!

A bit overwhelming to be honest.

    Morning Matt

I used the mudstuff 73mm LED conversion kit for the body lights and the headlights I bought spare of the moment from Wayne actually but they aren't his. These ones are from ************ and he was using them for some R & D so I took them off his hands when I was picking up some other things from nugget.

    New battery in.
    I choose Varta H3. Price 390$

It's of exact same dimensions as the factory battery, with 10 ah more capacity at 100ah

Also I find out the factory battery in my puma defender is actually a deep cycle lead acid...CCA 800 90ah.
Code is lfd 90. Made by Varta

In many ways, I think It make sense to have a deep cycle battery with enough CCA in a off-road vehicle. At times you will have power consumption and run the battery really low....E.g. bogged in a mudhole at night with light bar on.....Waiting for help.....

Getting ready to pull the trigger on one of those too.... they are out of stock now and for the past several weeks. Its not an urgent priority for me right now, I will be waiting for something to break (LT230, MT82, or clutch) before it gets fitted - just want it on hand so there is no "waiting for parts" delay when the time comes.

[edit]: Just asked DPL to organise some HD rear half shafts and drive flanges too. Will get those fitted next service in a few weeks time.

I installed a new gear knob - the old puma one cracked up and fell apart. While trying to short cut doing that I broke the turret.... so ordered and installed a slickshift! Very good mod, nice and clean shifts now.
