    Puma won't start, advice please

I have just got back after 5 weeks and have fitted a new battery to my 2013 Puma 90 as it went flat and wouldn't hold charge just before I went away.

I now have a car that won't start, engine fires and then dies so I'm picking something to do with immobiliser perhaps

Pressing buttons on fob won't activate door locks either, it was working fine before flat battery

Cant find anything in handbook for this problem, it just says reset fob which I can't do as locks won't activate

Not sure if its relevant but car was unlocked for 5 weeks while I was away

    Cheers Paul

Did you follow the shut down procedure before disconnecting the battery?

    To fix: (works most times)
Disconnect battery, touch ends of leads together (each other NOT a terminal.)

    Leave 5 min. Reconnect...

It’s funny, I’ve never bothered with the shut down procedure and I’ve never had a problem.

The only thing my handbook mentions (MY16) is to disconnect the negative within 15 seconds of removing the key from the ignition, with the alarm off and windows closed, as it may cause the alarm to go off if it’s fitted with battery backed-up siren. I guess mine doesn’t have one.

    Cheers,
    Jon

While it might be listed in the owners book as a "procedure", its more common knowledge than a must do thing, turning the headlight switch on (even though the lights wont come on) achieves the same result which is dissipating any residual charge left in the system from other devices.

Disconnected battery touched leads together waited reconnected ......same symptoms engine fires and dies.

key fob also does nothing, radio comes on every time I try to start vehicle even when it's been switched off?

Thoughts appreciated, do I need to re enter code perhaps

Check all the fuses under the drivers seat, I had starting problems a few years ago- can't recall the specifics- and it was a fuse.
