Hello, I think we've run aground again. I keep getting this v bulletin message, obviosly the sites too popular. Have to kick us money changers out of the Temple.

Great view from up here in the Australian Ravens Nest. Speaking of which, as a famous person once said, "Nice view from up here but no way to spend an Easter" . My local Wollys started selling Hot Cross buns and Easter Eggs in Janurary. Is this opportunistic or what? Only screaming done up here is when the resident Aussie Raven chews on me toes. Though assistant Crows Nest operator Seagoon is playing 'Eve of Destruction' on his gramaphone.

all that talk of markets remindd me of a sign in the Victorian indoor market at Dewsbury in the West Riding of Yorkshire which used to warn shoppers about 'the disgusting and dangerous habit of spitting' :o and how it was banned.

is it banned in Aus also.

Used to have porcelain tiles on the subway ramp walls at Flinders Street Station in Melbourne. Incorporated in the glazed tiles were tiles which said "No Spitting". I always thought it was a left over from the TB and Influinza epidemics from the 1930's, not to mention 1919. This tiling was fairly old.

our corner shop, Edith Grimshaw and Sons on the corner of Bath St.and Current St. never stops selling anything no matter what time of year it is,
you can get xmas puddings for August bank holiday or an Easter egg on boxing day.I once saw her scrubbing a chicken to get all the dead bits off so it still looked pink, bless her.

She used to play music in the shop ''ta sooth'' the shoppers as they ''peroosed'' her goods with such hit's as 'stop in the name of Bisto' or 'you can get fresh with Edith' and her favorite, 'squeeze that apple and feel the back of my hand'

Possibly...........But a closer bet might be Jim McQueen from The Salmon Tail Inn. Just a stones throw from the town & handy to the racecourse. A pint and a punt as it were.

Ahoy the deck!
Well! it seems the crow outranks me now my Captain. Received a message from the admiralty earlier today. It seems I've been tried in absentia for the heinous crime of saying bull**** in front of the crew. That is bull**** with a 'random' letter in place of the first and last astericks. Or is that Asterix, damm Frenchies, showed em at Trafalgar what!.
Anyway I've been court-marshalled and convicted by my peers errr. peer, a fellow "Master" of the non Jedi variety and exiled to the Crows Nest.
The Shame!........The Shame! Reduced to the ranks, the family name dis-honoured. What to do?
Capn' Grock, I've been sent to Coventry, the land of Morris cars. (At least I should be grateful it wasn't the land of Morris dancers).

not a Sporting 40 model old boy ?

Used to have one years ago, don't know the model description.Smallish, perhaps a bit smaller than the old Austin A40 Devon, beautifully built, late 40's at a guess. 4 cyl Daimler engine and preselector gearbox, had a little pull up blind on the rear window and I think the windscreen wound out. Very quiet and comfortable.
Any of these left or does the salt get em in the end?

Almost got the gravel carting finished today,100m short of the finish.
Once its all in I have to mix it (3km)with the original road form it all up and make sure its hard enough for the tar.
Not looking forward to mixing it,its the worse gravel Ive played with,no fines to bind it together.Luckily the original road has a pretty high clay content.Tar is booked for the 25th.

Coope sounds like your talking about a tanning centre in Sheffield:p we'll show the trawerman how to trawl Andy but first we'll make for the Isle of Arran for Vixen.

Did I mention that Aunty Potter(nee Smith) used to work in a woolen mill in Halifax, from when she was 8 yrs old worked as a scavenger who used to crawl under the machines whilst they were moving, very dangerous, she knocked some sense into her self many atime, only to loose what she'd amassed by bumping her head on libary shelf later in life.

she met Uncle Potter at the Peice Hall in Halifax one wet and windy Tuesday whilst out looking for men with three other mill workers, only to end up with 'him' as told the guests at there wedding, she had set her slights on an overlocker from Huddersfield way but by the time she'd saved up the bus fare to tell him he was already married with 6 kids.

Later in her life she progressed to being a bobbin in Sir Titus Salts mill in Bradford, and often travelled to far off places such as Todmoreden and once on a exchange bobbin trip to the Isle of Arran.

go on then climb up to crows nest Vixen, but no pickin and flickin ok;)

dont know till i get them hear after my holiday they have been in storage for 20 odd years and in pics look very clean

Where abouts in Vic? If you need somewhere to store 'em till you work out getting them to WA you can put 'em in my shed for a while. Pick 'em up too if it's not too far away.

hmmm
that RED one looks familiar---

Hey BUSHIE!!

any word on what happened to Heathcote 71 ??

Here's another red one. Taken in 1983. We were much more modern here in Victoria. No antique Blitz's for the CFA. Cutting technology for us, 1960 something Austin, petrol, crash box. Eat your heart out Grock. No ROPS or any of the fancy stuff, 2000 litres of water, a Lowdown pump (basic but effective) and twin electric fuel pumps (a must after Ash Wednesday). Not fancy but a bloody good fire truck.

yes it was a good pic,on about Fire trucks whilst working for the MOD I helped get the Bedford RL Green Goddess pump's ready during the firemans strike back in 1977,they were all built to Ministry of Supply spec by either Plaxtons of Scarborough or Harringtons of Hove, they still had the hand rung bell and semaphore trafficators fitted.

They had been in store since the early to mid 50's with Shell telus preservative engine oil with a big sticker in the windscreen telling the driver the vehicle could only be driven with that oil in for a maximum distance of 150 miles at 30 mph max

5.0 ltr 6 Cyl petrol,with a Coventry climax pump

He is willing to put a comfy chair on the radar plinth to act as a crows nest, plus the Lucas sealed beam headlights have been changed to Xenon lights and as a sweetner a new multi tone horn has been fitted.

so what do you the crew think ?,

ps, the Ho Har is coming up for it's sea worthiness test and the rust around the rear wheel arches may cause a failiure and great expence .

I can smell the Castrol r40 as we speed along the M5 (Centenary) motorway

yes Deano the bar is built into the seat base,Vixen the St Christopher is equiped with 6 mobile toilets which are remote controled from various p+p stations around the vessel there is even an elevated basket for Phang on the bridge complete with bone rest.

I've got Bill at Micron to make some 6into2into1 exhaust headers for each of the four engines so it'll sound like a Spitfire MK 19 with adjustable baffles for silent saling when needed.

All well and good but does it come in cerise?

Whens the next fishing trip Johnno????
Darn living so far away from the ocean.
Grew up in Fremantle, when fishing all the time with my Bro on our push bikes.Even when we were real young,ie less than 9 we would ride from Orelia to Rockingham for the day fishing during school holidays.
Lived in Quinns Rocks for some time, out pulling craypots at daylight before work with the boss, walk across the road for a feed of Tailor for dinner after work.Later moved up to Woodrige(Guilderton),awsome beach fishing before anybody ever new about Wilbinga, now its as busy as a bunch of flies on a fresh poo.
I REALLY need to live near the ocean again:(:(:(:(

Went fishing under the bridge at Mandura a couple of years aro. My mates little boy, about 5 yo had a brand new rod and reel that he'd got for Christmas. His pride and joy. Well, first cast, boy, rod and reel with mum shortly behind ended up in the drink. Kid half drowned and devestated at losing his new rod, didn't care about the fact he couldn't swim. Mum in shock. A memorable experience.
Hope this isn't going to be a repeat performance?
Anyway the next day my boys went trolling under the bridge and retrieved his gear, a bit of RP7 and bobs your uncle. Happy kid. Took mum a bit longer to get over it though.
Hope you have better luck.
