Any plug like that will need a fair bit of prep to make a good mould from anyway - so in all likelihood, any texture on the outside will be reduced through fine sanding / buffing / polishing to make the mould as slippery and clean as possible.

I have a fair bit of carbon and carbon/aramid weave here in different weights and plenty of lightweight csm, so making a mould is not the issue. it's only time and cost of materials.

But, if they don't have the pods over in Annangrove, then I'll be happy to spin a few off if the plug is in good nick.

I'm going to make the trip up over there today so I'll report back when I get home tonight.

Not too much prep required if making the mould from plaster. The top of the pod does have a textured finish that I'd be reluctant to lose.

If you are going to Davis' then I'd suggest printing out and taking one of the images I posted.

I following this thread with interests. If progressing perhaps we have to link it to the projects forum.

    Ron,
I've been in touch with them and they're going to 'get back to me'

which possibly mean it could be lost in time - certainly the gentleman on the phone said it was well before his time there and does not recall ever seeing one.

So I guess we just sit & wait for an answer, but if I don't get anything back in about a week, then I may just start the old 'prefabrication' process and do it myself. Ideally I'd like mine to house 4-5 gauges, and if there was space below, some shallow-mount switchgear, but that is not a necessity. I'd be happy to fab some up from yours if you want to do a rough plaster cast, which I can touch up.

I was thinking about some 'spackle-spray' for texturing the surface, and a colour-match vinyl spray to match the dash- knowing full well that a vinyl-fabric will never match, and the patterned abs plastic will not be able to be replicated easily in gelcoat. soo many fine grooves.

Just thinking out aloud right now. I'll wait and see what Davis' comes back with.

That's a nice early disco dash, would look better as one piece.

I managed to snare one of the John Davis fibreglass consoles today - $50.

They are still making them, but do not have many left in stock.

They will fit 2 additional 52mm gauges, but a third might be a tight squeeze.

So I'm going to butcher mine a little and extend it out, so it can fit 4 gauges on the front.

the good news is the unit I got was sorrel brown, so it matches the dash.
So it will give me something to colour-match when I'm done with the new one.

I have just bumped into this post. Here is a photo of a gauge pod I had on my previous RRC. It was a 1990, all work was done by Po before I bought it, work was done by Graeme Cooper so if interested maybe contact Ward at GCA as he may remember where they sourced the pod. Phil.
