Project 89 Blown away

My wife has dug me in the ribs get a bit more done on this one as the parts for it are all through the house and garage:D. If I can't get it done soon I will be selling the parts and giving up:(
The worst thing is there is an order I have to do it in as I wan't to get engineered. The blower and Gas will have to go on last or I have no chance.
I will start on body lift, flares and then do some brake test with 33s (Don't have 35s here yet) on to see if up to scratch before the Defender calipers and Vented disc go on.
On tyres.. I am looking at Micky T MTZ. 35X12.5 They seem to be the pick of the bad lot for all round use. Remember I do long black top runs as well as severe off road. I can't carry two sets of tyres for 1000s of kms in case I need them. So there will be a compromise:( My other consideration is 35s wont clear on my 120" 110 with out a lot off stuffing around:( I just wonder if I should come back to 33s so one size fits all. It would make the engineering easier as well. For now we'll try the 33X12.5 mongrels on it. (Motorway tyres are no more:()

Havn't done much on the Rangie as waiting till I get the wrecked 90 model so can make a reak good one out of the two and should to help speed things up.
I have started to make some billet pulleys for setting up the Super charger so can play with boost on the second rangie:twisted: Once we get engineered with lift,Tyres etc I will swap the 3.9 and blower in and try to engineer it again:eek: Then the gas:(

This one will slow it down. The next few will be smaller and boost it up more.

Thanks Khos, I'll have to make a decision on how to attack it 1st. As fitting out the wreck and swapping bodies sounds the easy way out other than getting engineered as the blower should be done last:( Also as pointed out on your thread they have some differences. Since my dash has to come out anyway there wont be much stopping me from swapping the complete wiring harness and considering the 94 Disco Dash (The Disco dash would be a challenge) or 90 Dash and air con (similar to the 89).

Looking at the 90 model it only had 3 unmarked panels. The Roof and tailgates. The paint is still good just needs a wash. The Right side doors and quarter will repair easily. The left doors are still repairable. The rest of it is junk

The D pillar and rear left quarter are to far gone:(


The body and paint on my 89 if fair other than a few parking dents:(,A bit of hail mainly roof and bonnet. A half arse repair on the bonnet I done after a small tree fell on it:angel:.

Definitely be using the 89 body.

Do I swap the 89 body onto the built up 90 chassis and running gear go back to building the 89 up wile rolling using the 90s drive line etc. Fit all the lockers 4.11s,caster correction and new CVs to 90 diffs then swap them out.

If I stay on the 89 chassis may be do it in this order as can't get the time to knock it over in one go and I don't want my Rangie stranded in a shed covered in junk like all my other unfinished projects here.

1 LRA body lift 1 weekend

2 Fit flares Over a few nights near a warm fire and the fridge. Should get better at this after a few :beer::eek:

3 Do the head gaskets etc and Fit the blower to the 90 and get it running (My neighbors are going to love this bit:twisted:) This may take a wile:(

4 Put the 90 on stands and pull the diffs and fit the Fender front brake calipers,maxi's etc.

5 swap the diffs in the 89 and fit long travel kit HD steering rods etc

6 Plumb up the Vacuum lines etc for lockers.

7 Make the ARB rear bar fit right + Make swing away tyre and jery holder.

8 Fit the 35's

9 By pass the rear proportioning valve and brake test.

10 Get engineered

11 Pull the 3.9 and ZF out of the 90, Send the valve block away for 3rd gear lock up mod.

12 By now the 3.5 should be knackered so drop the Blown3.9 with haltech and delco loom and the 90s ZF in with a P38 oil cooler

12A Pull the dash out at this point and redo air con and harness changes for the 3.9.

13 Try to get engineered again.

14 Then fit the LPG (Dual fuel)

15 Find or make some sill tanks so can get some range on fuel:eek:

I'm sure I've left something out..

Spoke to the engineer concerned with this thing today as well as a few gas certified fitters. The engineer is OK with the blower atm but recommends vapour injection for the LPG to be safe.
We all know what this would cost:eek:. So Its gas and no blower or blower and no gas by the looks of it. I don't think I could put up with a duel fuel on a NA 3.5 or 3.9 as already hopelessly underpowered. :(

I guess its the blower and no gas. Long range fuel tanks may be needed.
Will have to add up running cost over a few years to work out break even point on the vapour injection idea. Will still have to be duel fuel regardless.

A motor & diff change is not that hard .... But the blower + wire + ECU install / setup ... is the tough call

My line of thought is ...
Buy a 1990+ rangie with a "great body & paint / Licensed" .... Build that one up .... Then sell the 89 that you have to recover the purchase cost

.... then start fleebaying ... or the "markets" ... the odd stuff thats useless to you

This may help, clean out the shed & put dollars back in your wallet
