Hi Lotz, actually you bring up a good point I hadn't thought of there, our trains in SA have some side facing seats still!!
But yes, re the rear facing seats, along with rear facing baby seats, rear facing bus seats, with no seatbelts, must be good ammo to reinforce the argument for that rear facing seat in the abovementioned perentie.
Troopys on Fraser Island are no longer permitted to have side seating, they must have forward facing seats. So all the hire company troopys have been converted to 6 seat versions for that exact reason.

Hi Gordie/Lotz, It appears that the rear facing seat is not the major problem except for the seat belt harness, but the seat wont be addressed until the roll bar is, The RFSV in my opinion has a pretty sturdy roll bar, except as previously stated is bolted to what appears to be a 6mm plate welded onto the top of the bin? unsure what is below as it is well covered.

Think I'm on the same page but not quite the detail I'm looking for thanks.
the current range of side facing seats on busses and trains are for disable access.
on the GS seats
legal under ADR, not so under VRS/VSS (yes the V stands for Vogon)
you may have them fitted, you may not have them included in the seating count you may not have people seated on them while the vehicle is in motion and anywhere you will have insurance coverage. (basicaly)
yes, with judicuos use off the hand throttle it is possible if you have skinny drivers do driver changes in a GS without stoping. and yes with a trunk stood on its edge between the seats the GS seats are surprsingly comfortable to sleep on, you put your pack up by the bulkhead and put your legs up on that, keep your webbing straps over youre shoulders and use the belt and pouching to support and cushion your head and shoulders. It is, or was,bb a good way to miss everything from the front gate of tindal to the boom gates of robertsons

We were not talking about all side ways facing seats, we were talking side way facing seats in Perentie soft tops, nor are we talking about vehicles that all ready have certification, we were talking about vehicles seeking certification new approval in the future in QLD.
Nor were we talking about people who maybe willing and able to circumnavigate the QLD transport compliance regulators. This is a new ruling and may take sometime to filter down to all the companying agents.
