The only thing I'm having a hassle with is trying to remove the trumpet from the air box. Does anyone know the trick to getting it out? It looks like it should just pull out but I am almost ready to cut it off.
mine has dual battery and where the trumpet was looks like it's been hacked off and then blocked off with plastic and silicone. not sure if that helps.

took the old girl up to glasshouse mountains powerline track on sunday, Ive never done much 4wd except on the beach, we followed a few people around and seemed to do everything very easily, for a standard discovery it keeps up and even did better than alot of the other modified jacked up etc patrols landcruisers,, comments were like "dont follow us mate you wont get through/up there in that" but we went everywhere they did
No snorkel but she really doesnt like water, coughs and sputters like wet electrics, but was ok again about 10 min later, even hill climbs where only a few could make it up i made it look easy apparently,

they are dear old things. Went with friends on beach camp a while back. 2 new fj cruisers, a patrol and a disco 3. At night they were all talking bout how much better their cars were and they do this and that and giving my disco 1 a bit. I stayed quiet until i had to remind them that my old girl as I recalled was the only car that didn't get stuck that day. None of them wanted me to pull them out either. Kept telling me i will get stuck trying. So i just let them deal with it whilst remaining as humbly smug as possible.

    Cheers Fausto79.
It looked like it should just pull out but I was getting nowhere. There is a lip on the inside which I thought should pull through but no go, even tried with a screw driver and hammer to push it through but just chipped bits off the lip, so was almost at the stage of cutting it off. Had another look today and pried around it with a small pry bar broke a few bits of the lip off but its out now ready for the battery

    tcase rebuilt

got my disco back today. after doing the clutch recently and changing seals etc on all the gearboxes discovered after i had done everything about the preload on intermdiate shaft stake nut etc. i remember having torqued it up to spec and when driving you could hear a bearing noise. mechanic i use and people on here said it would be ok and would just get noisier as the bearing start to wear.

anyway, i also had a leak on the front gearbox seal (which i had changed) and my father in law will be here from deutschland end of year so want to do some touring. decided to bite the bullet and get the tcase rebuilt and change seals on the gearbox

at the same time they reset the rear bearings which were a bit loose, change the panhard rod bushes, fixed my steering issue and fixed the leak in my turbo system, which i tried to fix and could not find.

lucky i did the tcase. when the guy opened the box the main front bearing collapsed and fell to bits. showed me the damage on my old case and the bearing. said it could have gone much longer or could have s..t itself anytime. he was surprised it was so quiet when driving.

anyway to cut a long story short. feels amazing now. i could not believe the difference. its almost like a new car. very happy.

head gasket next. and if my wife keeps her job i can get new suspension as the old shocks are getting soft.

Finally got around to properly securing the aux battery mounted where the small rear passengers seat was. Fitted it in a steel mesh enclosure so lightweight items can safely be stacked around it. And yes, it's a sealed type dual purpose Gave the Disco a much needed clean inside and out too. Easy with only three mats to remove
