Some decent tread is all you need to go most places , add a lift and there are few places you cant go.

I went out 4wding properly today for the first time. Plenty of rocky hills. Got the disco on two wheels a few times. Of the half dozen hills I attempted the only one I didn't get up was due to clearance issues. In order to get up the some of the hills you would need a serious 4wd, and I'm not talking a lifted and locked Toyota, I'm thinking a competition 4wd.
Was good to get out and see the car could do far more than I expected, and seemed comfortable doing so. There were a few times where it felt like I was on a damn steep sideways angle, but I'm guessing my comfort level will give way before the thing rolls over.

Yesterday, had my local exhaust shop remove the factory front muffler and replace it with a straight pipe like others have done. Weight saving, less to get hung up on, cooler floor[no carpet]and what certainly feels like quicker turbo spool up. Better response from midrange to max power at 4250 rpm. Sounds good too
Left the rear resonator in place for now until it gets hammered off road.![]()

I adjusted the steering stops. There is now about a hands thickness of gap at full lock either side. Hopefully no more grinding. Need to camel cut the rear and I'll be done for a while. Well, after replacing the sump gasket and an oil change next weekend.
Cut a hole in the floor for easy access to the rear 1/4 fuel tank so I could replace the pump in my daily. Took the new pump out of the box only to realize no olives or union nuts. Attempted to swap over but no good. Ah well cheap pump for a reason i guess!

It already was horrendous, but I wont find out till Friday or Saturday when I drive it again
Yea sort of.
I went banging around in my old bus yesterday.
In a plantation and had to drive around a tree that had fallen over the track.
Back left wheel dropped into a huge hole. Sort of like a sink hole or an old wombat hole. Im talking 3 feet deep min! Was not that wide. Just enough to get my 33inch muddy stuck in there and my rear bumper to the ground.
STUCK! No way the one wheel left could pull me out.
Yes i could have got out and checked the track or lack there of, but my boys love me getting bogged and stuck. They scream out for it from the back so its not a problem to get bogged and have to recover. Thus i just wing it some times and see how far i can push the car.
Easy fix, i carry enough stuff to get out and expect this sort of situation to occur from time to time. (i go out of my way to get crossed up, bogged etc)
2 jacks and some flat wood i carry all the time.
Filled hole infront of tyre as much as i could to give a base for jack.
Jacked enough to get the second jack onto the rail properly.
Got her up a bit and filled underneath wheel with wood.
Dropped her down and away i went.
20 min to recover and my eldest son was there so happy to show him how.
That was fun, i enjoyed it all in all.
One thing i did not enjoy was the bullant nest i upset while digging.
Thought i had watched out for all of em until the drive home when one of em hitchhiked on me and bit me on the neck the little bugger lol.
Fun day had all in all.
Made and fitted some new engine oil cooler hoses, gave it a oil change while I was there. Hopefully the steering box won't look like its leaking black oil now.
