I added some sound proofing material to the engine bay firewall to minimise some the 300 Tdi's screaming rattle.
Would have like to do a more professional job of it, but until I get the motor out, that is never going to be possible.
(maybe one day into the distant future).
But it's definitely helped a fair bit.
I just cut the foam pieces into manageable sizes and push fitted them into the places that allowed them to be held using various pipes and other bits in place. The foam is very grippy so they shouldn't slide out due to vibrations.
In terms of noise suppression I reckon it's cut the rattly sound of the engine by half predominantly when cruising along at 80-100k/h.
Problem tho is that the exhaust drone is now slightly more audible, tyre noise is a lot more audible and wind noise(in many situations takes over anyhow)!
Next plan will be to add some to the underside tpo to see if it helps with exhaust drone noise. The sound frequency of tyre and wind noise don't 'hurt' my ears as much as the frequency of the exhaust and engine noise.
Now when cruising on a flat bit of road with new super smooth tarmac, tailwind, with little to no load on engine the sound insulation definitely has cut(or muted) the engine noise by at least half.
Arthur.
All these discos are giving me a heart attack!

Nothing like a long week end to get motivated, well slightly motivated, no need to exaggerate is there. My Hickey winch has been sitting next to it`s cradle for a few weeks now ready to be fitted to the Disco. Well it is all done now. New winch motor works well. Checked the rear diff and transfer case oil levels. Rear diff pinion seal weeps a tad, but there was plenty of oil. Transfer case front seal looks like it is leaking, but could be oil from the motor. Transfer case was really full. As the oil down my arm and on the floor indicated. There is a oil leak some where from the motor. I think it might be a generational thing to fix, I will pass the Disco on to my son when I go and he will like me fruitlessly look for that leak and then pass it on to his son and so on. As the bloke who did the road worthy said " If the oil don`t hit the ground then it ain`t worth the pain to fix on a land rover" So apart from the Disco`s minor oil leaks where all set for a bit camping and fishing.

tidyed up my stereo instal yesterday a touch ripped my cheap sony 4 channel out and put my slightly more powerful jvc unit in and decided to run the subwoofer of a vibe from my other vehicle was stuff i already had in a car i only drive when i need the space for working on other things so i feel it was worth having the better bits from that car in the disco so i can enjoy them instead of feeling like i spent bulk money on things just for them to sit in a car i dont use considering since iv had the fresh gearbox in iv driven the car once around the block just to make sure the battery doesnt decide to magically go flat on me if i actually do need to drive that car lol
Drove it, got a blue slip and put plates on it........finally!
Insanely jealous......![]()
