Hi all,
thought I would post a photo of my not so shiney truck in action on the West Coast of the South Island, New Zealand. probably similar to Tassie.
Standard driveline, 300tdi, 2 inch raised springs, 235/85/16 RT03 tyres
Keeps up with the many Hiluxes on their 33" tyresand yes, the truck made it both ways through this bit of swamp
cheers
Greg
TE610. Go like stink when they go.
Here's mine. I first saw it out at Uluru just after we did our Simpson crossing. It was being driven by Anne Beadell and partner. She had bought it new just after Len passed away in ’95 and had done a lot of desert trips in it. When I saw them, they were on a trip with Connie-Sue and Mick and the Gunbarrel Experience team, replacing Len’s old aluminium plates that he used to use as sign posts when building the roads.
She mentioned at the time that she was looking at upgrading to a newer car so I emailed when I got back home to Bris, settled on a price, flew down to Adelaide and drove it back. Saw some of Len’s surveying equipment while I was down there and spoke to Connie-sue about desert travel.
Since then, I’ve done quite a few trips including Darwin and the gulf track, Cape York, Western and Central Queensland, Flinder’s Ranges, Strezlecki, Birdsville and Oodnadatta tracks.
We’ve bought a newer Patrol for touring duties now as the Rover has done 380k and is getting a bit long in the tooth. I still want to do some of Len’s old tracks in it though but will set it up for harder 4WDing (4.1s, axles and rear locker).
Here are some specs:
2” springs with Koni adjustable shocks.
31” all terrains or mud terrains depending on trip on 15” alloys.
Bullbar and cargo barrier.
125l fuel tank.
TJM stepped roofrack.
UHF
Some more.

Repairing leaking transmission in friend's driveway in Cairns on the way to the cape. Had to pull the transmission out and apart to fix- worked through the night and got going again next morning.

Nolan Brook (I think). Note the homemade snorkel. All I could afford at the time.
In driveway at home.
