George has gained some new boots.
G’day
Considering I browse this forum daily and have gained most of my ideas from you guys I’d thought I’d post some pictures and history of my pride and joy – nicknamed Mufasa.
Some attached pics are of the day I bought it and a recent trip to Fraser Island.
1997 Discovery V8i ES Auto
Fitted when bought;
2” Old Man Emu lift
DP Performance engine chip
Nudge Bar
Cargo barrier
Side Steps
Within the last 3 years I've added;
Towhitch
30mm poly coil spacers at rear to keep Landy level while towing camper trailer
Yokohoma Geolander AT/-S All Terrains
Narva 225 spots
Rear LED flood
Roof racks and basket
Self made awning
Self made snorkel
Upgraded stereo and speakers (CD, USB, Ipod, 12”sub in custom box, 6”x9” rear, 6” front, amplifier)
Performance brake pads
Solar panel trickle charger mounted to dash (not sure this actually does much but, makes me feel better having it!)
Extra heavy duty battery
Trailer brake controller
Rear reversing camera and 7” screen
Replaced all internal bulbs with LED’s
Removed rear boot seats & replaced with factory storage boxes
Rear door shelf
While its certainly not a go anywhere truck as its also my daily drive to the office but, its been through some impressive trips and touch wood the only thing to break has been the water pump.
I don’t intend to fit a UHF as I prefer the mobility of my handheld CB but, I'm debating whether or not to build some rear drawers and slide for the fridge but, I'm in two minds over that. I do want to fit forward facing LED floods similar to the rear one as that gets a lot of use at the campsite or during night time fishing. LED’s are some of my favourite mods as they use no power and light up a huge area. I've also just bought a dual battery kit to install a portable battery set-up in the boot for the fridge.
The car has full service history, only 148000 k’s (not bad for 15yrs old – I'm the 3rd owner) and is in immaculate condition and is regularly washed and waxed. When I bought the car from an old fella here in Brisbane he swore it had only been off road twice (he bought it off a city business director), had never been on the beach and didn’t even have a tow hitch fitted so the motor had never been thrashed while used as a tow vehicle.
As someone else mentioned earlier on this thread, to me its the little things that make a big difference. I've done all the mods myself in the front yard, all wiring is soldered and in protective conduits and I've wired all accessories to genuine Discovery dash switches so everything looks neat and factory fitted. The snorkel and awning are some of my favourite mods and am really pleased with how they turned out. My theory is if I look after the car it looks after me.
There’s not much more left on my list of upgrades to do but, if anyone has any suggestions please pass them on! And also please feel free to ask if you’re thinking of doing any similar mods yourself, hopefully I can help!
Thanks for looking,
Mark

If you can't fix it with a hammer , you got an electrical problem .......
I put:
- Heavy Duty Steering Arm Set
- Panhard Rod Adjustable
- Terrafirma return to centre (RTC) steering damper
- Steering Damper Side Mount Kit
- Steering Damper Mount Kit on a LHD Disco 1 GL79R
One more photo.
