Hmmm... first line in your post I reckon. 245 tyres, auto and roofrack.

I was driving my TD5 auto in Melb traffic for a few years, std 235 tyres, auto rarely locked up, 700 - 750 from a tank. Now all country driving same size tyres 950 per tank. Trips with roof tent 800 - 850 per tank.

With 245 tyres you have your foot down a bit more for required performance.....

Protection can be lightened and still perform.
I'm going to do some bits and pieces to lighten mine a bit...

Filled up the D2a TD5 manual today. Got 854ks from 83.6 litres.

It's got 245x75's and a bull bar, a DP performance chip and intercooler upgrade.

About 150ks were city driving, 200 roughly with a 8x6 dual axle trailer and the rest with just some tools including me in it.

Compare that to my 4.6 manual D1 which averages 350Ks a tank...

I have read threads on here with people getting 800-900km from a tank - I'm struggling to get 600. I wasn't too worried until last week, as most of my driving is city, mostly towing a trailer, but last week I ran a full tank mostly unladen.
2 trips from Campbelltown to Sydney airport return, 1 trip Campbelltown to Bowral, the rest running around town, no towing.
Overall 587km, 88L diesel = 15l/100km which to my mind is shocking, especially given I was getting 10l/100km from my 300tdi Defender which was never unloaded.

In answer to my title question - yes, something is wrong - I'm not that much of a leadfoot
I guess my real question is "what is wrong? Any ideas?"
    TIA

    Hi Alex,

My D2 TD5 auto 2003 is in the same boat as you. I have change several part and clean all the sensor includes injector hardness but still the same. If you found the solution, please share with me.

Mine might be a bit hard to tell from since I have changed from a Bad performance tune to the Standard tune a few times (I like the performance but it's over fuelling, long story), and I ran the 235/70-16 until one blew and I'm currently running the 255/55-18 until I get some new 16s.

Out of town it's about 10.5L/100 (same on both tunes). I set cruise on exactly 100 even though I'm in the NT where the limit is 130.
Standard tune in town is about 12.5L/100
In town with dodgy performance tune is about 14L/100

Well... Just done the maths this morning after fuelling up the car... I'm currently running around 15.9l/100km... Shocking isn't it? Any idea how I can get the fuel back down to a normal TD5 fuel consumption?

My is Auto 2003. I'm currently saving up to get either Nanocom or Hawkeye but I definitely keen to diagnose the car as I am kind of surprise that others are able to run the car with larger tyres but still getting 11l/100km. I don't think the car is tune at all. There is no one here in NW Qld Mount Isa have any diagnostic tools or such. Recently change the new MAF, Injector hardness, new head gasket, EGR blanked, no roof rack, tyre size 235 75 R16 AT. Next diagnose will be changing MAP sensor, I guess...
