Re getting the spin on filter started without a fancy gizmo.......I liked someone's idea of putting a hose clamp on it and knocking it round. Much more finesse than punching a screwdriver through it.

FWIW I just have a band tool that has been ground down in width.
It nearly slips in that tiny gap.
I dont understand i use swan neck pliers with no issue at all fits easy. Im using the Mann filter which might be a tab smaller.
MANN-FILTER Online Catalog Europe - Product Details Oil Filter W 713/9
The Mann filter is about 10-12mm shorter than the common cheapo parts ones in the parts packs.
I recently ( well a while ago) fitted a Britparts one and I then couldn't get my band type tool under it even after I cut it in half. I have done one oil change and in this case have not changed the filter seeing LR reckon it should only be changed every second or third.
I wondered why the hell why until I measured both filters.
I don't know how I will get it off yet, but probably the screwdriver hole, although the hose clamp idea looks good , if I can get it under (doubtful) or whether I can undo it completely and the thread it through. ( looks frustrating)
