put fuel in her
Have taken the plunge and accepted the quote of $1400 from the local RACQ repair shop for the repairs to get the old girl over the line. First time (apart from a breakdown years ago) that I will have had someone else work on her but recent surgery and the nature of some of the jobs I am leaving it to the professionals.
Replace upper and lower ball joints and halfshft seals, sump gasket and rocker gasket.
The only real shocker $250 for the sump gasket
Mario had quoted $75 for genuine.
Local bloke claims he is prevented by law from fitting parts sourced from non shopfront suppliers.
And the price of oil! Crikey!
I'll have to tell him to go down the road for a better deal@SCA.
This should get the The old girl up to spec.
Sump gasket sounds like not much fun to do on your back under the car and I doubt I'd have managed the ball joints.
The provent has a meter or so of hose with a tap on the far end. It takes a while to fill up I guess. I'm not driving much at the moment! Yes it does have a new original depression valve
The wheel nut torque spreadsheet was a fun thing to do for me!
The spreadsheet and more resources can be found at Resources
I removed the depression valve form my Provent 100 clone and use the original depression valve.
I see no reason to have 2 of them, as the ventilation system OEM valve is tailored to the TD5.
I am sure that you can remove one or the other of the depression valves without problems.
I note that the latest entrant RYCO has specs for their depression valve but I could find none for the Provent or for that matter the TD5 but seeing the TD5 one is designed for the engine and all you are doing is adding a filter to the system I stuck with the stock valve..
Seems to work well.

Flaw in your logic.
The factory valve is designed for the factory set up.
By the time you add the canister and filter media it’s out of spec.
Therefore the valve in the canister should be matched to its output and would work appropriately.
Regardless, it’s air recirc and nothing more.
But pray tell Tombie what is the spec of the say Provent 200 valve seeing it is designed for up to 250BHP or whatever and a TD5 is much less than that .Quote:

My thought is that it would open far later than a TD5 valve , ie need more manifold depression to open it therefore causing more crankcase pressure.

Yes, yes, and yes ... and even though i had a recently new depression valve installed i removed it recognising that it would compromise the proper function of the catch can. And the unexpected result is that my engine is the cleanest it’s ever been - no oily film build up from the rocker cover gasket, or the from the front cam plug, or where the vent hose connects on the top of the rocker cover.
