A problem is that even if the Prado has enough power (127kw/ 410Nm) to tow my D2a, it wouldn't be allowed to do so because the trailer alone already 1.2T gross weight, and that Prado only has legal 2.5T towing weight.

And my D2a has legal 3.5T towing weight which I counted 1.2t trailer + 2.3T Prado (well, I am sure it was about 2.4T including about 80L of fuel, how the previous owner left almost a full tank of diesel in the car was unknown to me).
wasn't there big discussion be for on towing, they had 3.5 tonnetowing rating but the important tow ball weight was low.?

Yes, but the Poms/EU also like to have about 6% towball weight, rather than our 10%

I have to admit my 2.7 is more balanced and easier to drive towing the brick with a 6% (180kg) ball weight in lieu of 350kg

I agree it was rated 3.5T, and I did tow 3.5T with her in the city very well but I was not happy with its current power.

I never officially weight my trailer tow ball but I check them by hands lifting. I know I would not be able to lift anything 150kg -250kgs so if I could easily lift my front tow ball by one or two hands then I'm happy to tow it with the D2.

Luckily my boat and trailer can stand almost flat parallel to the ground by itself so the weight of the tow ball would be very light.

At the risk of re-opening an old can of worms, I was reading the manual in my new to me 16.5 D4 and the following "appeared"

    "page 92 - Towing
Australia only: The nose weight must be a minimum of 7% of the gross caravan/trailer weight, up to a maximum of 250 kg.
When using the detachable trailer hitch receiver .... the nose weight can be increased to 350 kg if the GVW is reduced by 200kg."

I've never come across such a "comment" before, but if LR have applied this since D2 days, it would explain why my D2 tongue says 250 kg max, despite LR vehicle being able to tow 3,500kg.

    EDIT: and 7% of 3,500 is 245kg

I recently sent a small, light box to the UK, per AP. It took six weeks to arrive.

    Reverse camera and SRS light.

I found out why the reverse camera stopped, the connecting plug has a split in it. Now I have the joy of connecting sub millimeter wires together, Plug or hard wire, I'm not sure yet.

And the SRS light keeps coming on. More gymnastics to unplug clean and plug. Again! Could it be the passenger side one?

Any trailer/Van should be loaded so that 10% of its gross weight should be pushing down on the towball, Having the the trailer loaded with less than 10% towball weight is dangerous not only to yourself but to other road users as well.
