I removed the rear prop shaft, the universal joint is shagged. My options are to replace the bearings, have to take it apart to see what the surfaces are like, or buy a new rear prop shaft. Thing is, all I see are second hand ones. At least the vibration has gone.
I wonder if the buggered uni joint made the donut coupling worse.

SupporterFWIW: Disco 1 rear shafts are the same if you choose S/H option.
I got a spare S/H one that I couldn't get off coz some previous gorilla rounded the nuts at the TC end. So, I tried to grind them half down, but instead ground my finger off instead .. so had to give up at the time.
Prop is still connected but half ground off too... and now hard to get under the car and get it off.
Arthur.
All these discos are giving me a heart attack!

SupporterI drove to Aldi, pulled on the handbrake lever, it went all the way to the top. A quick look showed the park brake drum off the TC and held in place by the muffler heat shield.
Easy enough to put back, except the bolts do not have thread all the way to the drum. the drum is a bit loose. I'll have to refit with a washer or three.
I tried the bread, drift and hammer to remove the bush. This did not work. I have a inner bearing puller ordered. Hopefully that will work.
Buying the 9/16 nyloc nuts! the prices vary. One place was only 44c per nut and wanted $27.00 for postage!
