And pretty sure they didn’t care at 18 years how good it held up.

SupporterHeater blower motor finally got sorted.
Squeaky old worn out bugger had to go. Got off my lazy @$$ and got to pick-a-part and pulled a blower motor out of a 2004 Camry which fits. sorted for a measly $20.
Been looking into what blower motors fit and don't fit. Many Toyota blowers are same/similar with nuanced differences.
Turns out the 2003-2006 Camry blower motor(not fan tho!) fits perfectly into the bros' 2002 model D2. Plug turns out the same too which is a bonus.
I'd been running the blower out of the spare for a short time but that carked it too, so had to reinstall the squeaky original back and put up with the not so lovely birds chirping away under the dash.
So fan had to come off the blower motor, as the 'yota fan binds on the body(about 7mm too tall) in the Disco heater box, but no biggie to pull the fan off and install the LR fan ..
The '99 model spares hulk had a different connector on the fan compared to the '02 model too ... unless someone has changed them during previous ownership time(unlikely given that the plugs on the loom ends all matched up right for each respective model.
But the '99 has wires out of the motor body that terminated at a plug with two parallel spade terminals.
Whereas the '02 motor body has a plug with two perpendicular spade terminals. I had to make up a wire adapter when I ran the '99 fan in the bros' TD5, but the camry fan uses the same plug as the '02 .. so plug and play ... ish!
Both LR motors had a lot of wear dust within their motors(expected for a 20 year old motor) .. but the camry motor was close to new within the windings by comparison.
So for anyone else that doesn't like the thought of paying ridiculous money for a new LR fan blower motor(genuine Denso, not some cheapo stuff!!) .. some parts places have these '03-'06 camry blowers in the low 100 range.
The motor body had a part number of 194000 which is common to a few of these motor types, and another few that come up in searches are cruiser blowers and from the earlier model Hiace range too. I know that the Hiace blowers don't fit, even tho they look very close. And even using the LR fan, the body pushes the LR fan up onto the heater body, so no go.
Arthur.
All these discos are giving me a heart attack!

SubscriberWell the D2 has been running like a dream, currently I am doing about 650km+ per week (driving from Margaret River to Perth airport and return every week) I wound the waste gate up 4 turns, made a massive difference, almost launches from the traffic lights now instead of taking the application of throttle as a general suggestion to commence forward motion
But yesterday doing my usual pre-flight check I noticed some very small metal shavings/dust that are coming from the fan bearing region (I initially thought it was from the water pump, but I didn't understand the Land Rover secret design...) so dropped off the fan belt and yep, some movement on the pulley, I have ordered a replacement bearing (a quality one, not a cheapo one after checking on here)
So that will be the weekends job, I will also be changing the trans fluid again (done about 25k ago) as it is looking a little cooked but I think that was to do with low levels when the cooler got a split in the feed line.
Hopefully the bearing holds until I get back home again.....
Cheers

SubscriberWell, about two weeks ago I got it back but within about 20km's the changes started to get really, really "thumpy" and sudden changing up and down. Took it back to the gearbox doctor. The diagnosis was that one of the solenoids had karked it. It was a brand spanking new part from ZF themselves and so started the inevitable wait for a new one....
Nearly two weeks for the part to arrive and it was fitted and I was called to come and get the car today. Yippeeee...It's as smooth as silk and I'm now happy and enthusiastic about D2's again...
On Friday we're off to Belair in SA for the SA Parks Campground Host get together and in October we're off to Stenhouse Bay (SA) for a couple of weeks...
Cheers,
Mark F...

Finally got around to swapping rear door lock actuators. Not as intimidating a job as it may look. Ex-wrecker parts for cheap, 30 min job on my second door lock. Now all the doors unlock with the central locking. Winning!
