    Transmission serviced

Transmission got serviced today by a local trusted shop and they fixed a few leaks.

Anyways long story short, they found a leak they couldn't fix and I now need to find new transmission oil cooler pipes

    Yay for hairline cracks

Did they show/tell you where this leak is?

Can be very important to not have the trans line blow out on you "in the middle of nowhere" ... i.e. leave you stranded or totally damage the trans!

I had a small leak in the D2 at the crimp between hard line and rubber line near the front.
I knew it was there, but one of the trans lines is a total pain to remove/refit, where the connector is obscured at the trans. The other line is easy-peasy tho.

So I put it off for too long. I had the new lines waiting to go, just had to summon the willpower to get into that hard line.

Of course that small leak turned into a pop off moment as I was heading to work one day. Luckily I was just in suburb traffic and didn't damage the trans, and not on a freeway/highway at speed. The oil will get dumped in seconds and trans dusted.

A bit later nephew had a slight leak at the same point in his D2a, and we worked on a plan to fix it immediately. Next day he got himself a crimper off marketplace. We hit that crimp with the crimp tool, and worked perfectly. Also did the other one just to be sure. A year later it's still not leaking.

Point here is, if it's near the cooler end of the trans lines get it done quickly or minimise the time you drive the D2 until you get the new lines.

Ya, mine is basically where it threads into the transmission, the bottom line. An associate has a wreck he will let me get it off, for a price of course.

Pic attached, but please excuse the potato quality XD

that one is why I have a set of crows foot spanners. If you still have a cat then you get good at dropping the engine pipe and the XYZ switch.

x1000 Kapow! Lots of debate on here about how it’s not high pressure, but if it blows you won’t care about that. It will empty the trans before you stop. If you’re lucky you will stop before you damage the trans

Les Richmond fitted Allisport Exhaust manifold.

Purchased direct from Allisport, had it ceramic coated in silver

So far so good - has made it much quieter.

Slightly better performance are my initial thoughts.

Will see if fuel economy improves.

Picture attached but you cant see much

Attached a photo of the new PowerfulUK foglights as requested

Probably it would if I had a flat on a concrete slab, but not on the grass where I was.
How did you go with the jack?

Reason I ask, is that today I finally got off my posterior to service the D2.
Had the jack in the shed, and while waiting for oil to drain, I thought .. yeah, check oil check it's operation ... etc, blah blah.
Of course it didn't work at all, had zero oil. So topped up with oil, and sealed it up went to test lift axle, and it barely lifted the tyre off the ground ... piece of paper clearance kind of gap.

No way, that'd be it! So tried to spin the top Y yoke(or whatever it's called) and nothing. no more extension. I yanks it as hard as I could and the second stage finally came out, but sucked itself back in.
Obviously I didn't fill with enough oil, so whilst filling oil, pulled the second stage and filled, kept going back in but eventually had enough in there for it to stay extended.

Next try to lift car ... I now had TOOO much oil in it and the rubber stopper popped off violently. Oil everywhere! Luckily I was doing oil change anyhow, and I usually get oil everywhere anyhow ... so no major problem.

Anyhow, point is did the second stage work for you, coz it didn't for me until I scolded it and spanked it to show itself.

BTW! .... now I have a jack that I'll probably still never use. Even on good solid level concrete ... damned thing is so dodgy ... but at least it now works.

No extension for me. But the pumping got really hard when the first one was fully extended. I'll persevere with it just to carry it with me.

Ah! .. yeah this is what happened to me too.

If you can(you have the strength), with it extended, pull on the end of it to un-jam the second stage. You only got the first stage working too.

I thought that the upper bit may have been a screw thread or something, but it's also hydraulic.
That second stage is what gets your extra height.

With it on it's side, to fill the oil, I pulled the second stage, it got pulled back, I filled some oil, pulled out again and it stayed out a bit more. Tedious to do it like that, but didn't have any other way to get it 'full' of oil.

But, don't keep filling it by extending second stage fully. The last couple of inches of the second stage don't need oil. I think there may be a return spring or something.

Of course didn't know this, and I filled it fully, which meant overfull!.

So closing it back down, and being too full .. something had to give. rubber stopper popped across the shed(luckily I found it) and oil everywhere. So be warned.

pull out the second stage, you'll get an idea of how far it comes out. It'll probably slide back in, but once you get a rough idea of leaving about 2 inches from full, then fill with oil, and should be enough.

Mine has plenty of oil. I have kept it full. Thing is, I have never used it in the 16 years I have owned the car. I thought the upper one would be threaded as well. Ok. Now you’ve pointed me in the right direction I’ll check it out. As for strength, I’m not so sure. Surgery has taken its toll. I’m still not allowed to do anything strenuous with my right arm. Guess I’ll try the left.

    LOL!

I've got both shoulders out, have been for about a year now. So kind'a sorta same. So maybe my description of difficulty could be somewhat overly exaggerated .
