Oh, I know that hill - just past Harcourt? The only bigger one 'round here is the one up to Blackwood from Greendale. But what I really want to know, is how your missus takes such adventures (especially with the plane to catch)?Quote:

Took my D2 on that trip, three adults and one bloody great dog and accoutrements. Cruise set a tad over 100. 10 litres per 100, everyone comfortable, well I can only surmise that in the dog's case, everyone could see out. I'm not seeing enough of a difference between D2a and D2 myself.
Only advantage with the D2a are the headlights.
(obviously diff lock lever too, but I'll soon install one in the D2)
D2a lights so much better/brighter than D1/D2 style.
Then the downside ... the poly lenses degrade! Easy enough to fix, but an annoyance for sure. And try to get one if you have an issue!

Agreed. In fact, my wife loves 'her' D2a. It's tuned and is generally more refined than the 99 Td5. I like the older one cos it's native condition has a nicer chortle than the tuned one. It's just that she wouldn't want me to touch within about 2 or 3 weeks of any longer trip, cos there is some history of follow ups needed after "repairs"...Quote:

Took the OKA to Wombat once, up that way. Bloody thing was down to second most of the time. In its defence, it was running 37s at the time, but boy did I learn why so many people put 6BT Cummins in them... I was waiting for the cyclists to overtake me. Scania used to sit on the dollar up there, unless it was heavy.Quote:

Dads 60 series non turbo was always down to 3rd(5sp man) and 60 up Pentlands, and sooty as hell. woeful.
I could easily tune the tdi to maintain 110 up the hill, but the EGT would hit over 700 only about 1/4 to less than 1/2 way up, and I'd chicken out and back off, and end up at 80 anyhow .. but much later.
I ended up just setting the fuelling pin to where it would maintain 90 for 90% of the run up, eventually hit high 600s but only at the point where I'd be cresting the long uphill section before the level off part, I'd back off, EGT would drop and then of course the last small rise to the exit. back on the right foot again and finally it'd peak at 700 for a few seconds.
Also MAN's used to fly up Pentlands back in those days I used to drive. Scanias had a harder time of it.
Then I got into the buses(and forgetting) so foot hard down .. and oops! .. speed alarm would screech at ya. 'ya just can't speed in them buses ... Herr manager would call you into the office next day, every time ... had enough and left!
(stupid thing was they all had cruise, but you just get used to a specific method, and it takes time to adjust sometimes).

new belt tensioner, leaky tapper cover gasket replaced, adjusted tappers, boost hose reinstalled (no wonder it wasn't driving well), turbo manifold tightened back up, new AFM, dodgy shocks tightened up.
Still needs more love, but it drives so much better now!
