I tried out my new Kincrome lock-on sockets (when I removed the rear disc). I've got to say they are very nice.

I had been eyeing them off for a while. But I already have a kincrome roller cab so had everything. I was waiting on them bringing just the sockets out rather than the kit with all the accessories as I didnt really want those. But I was at the tool shop with my boss the other day and he bought me the 1/4& 3/8 set.

The sockets seem to fit a lot tighter than my other ones and no marks on the couple of bolts I took off, which were rather tight 12mms. So hopefully these will deal a bit better with the LR soft ali bolts that keep rounding. My rocket cover bolts were rather close to round, so these should make their removal alot easier.

the new ratchet is very nice too.

I got a 1/4-3/8 metric set too a few weeks back.(I already have 2 x 1/4 sets + a 3/8ths set, so didn't need any more tools of this kind!).
But what happened was I accidentally rounded one of the 4 bolts on the viscous fan pulley on my D1 when I was undoing it all to do the timing belt, and immediately turned into an moment on my part.
I had nothing to undo it with, so walked down to the Bursons to find any tool to help remove the now worn down bolt head.
All he had was a set of those Kinchromes, so I had no choice.
I was reluctant( to spend the money) at first, but now having used them they are so much more solid/secure to work with, and I've removed one of the other 1/4 sets, which is also a kinchrome set) from the car tool box and it's sitting in the shed now .. probably never to be used again.

Funnily too. Bursons have a display stand for them on the counter, with three bolts with files down heads to show potential customers how well they work. The counter guy reckons some lowlifes keep stealing the tools chained up to the display, so he had none to show me.
But apparently they can undo totally round rounded heads. The display has something like three ground down bolts which are tightly done up to show how well these socket heads can remove the worst rounded head you can produce!

The Burson near me is missing the sockets too. Rather sad really and why bother for one bit.

Kincrome had a bigger display at the woodwork show and seeing what they would undo had me sold on them. They had a ¼” ratchet that you could get quite tight and they were still undoing the rounded bolts. Had they sold the sockets only I would have bought them then. Although the ratchet and the wobble extension bars are a lot nicer than the old style one. So I probably wont be using my old ones. Which might now be used to make up a set to leave in the back of the car.

What happened to your Discovery 2 today?

Installed a new Supercharge gold battery, painted under the battery box, tidied some cables around the same and cleaned out the ECU plug again (few months since doing injector harness) there was a small amount of oil and was getting a can-bus fault logged.
