Fresh engine oil, (10W-40 FWIW ) both oil filters, a new fuel filter and new fill plugs for both diffs.

I was wondering where the diesel leak around the old fuel filter was.
I think this has been like this for at least 20,000km. It isn't the first time and won't be the last we see this.

Hmmm did not think of that - will check it out (now it is dark easier to see)
NOPE - glovebox light not working at all - even when it should (add to list of things to fix)

I tested the charge at alternator - 14.6 volts and if I drive teh car every day it keeps the battery topped up - but sit for 24 hours or more and so dead not even a flicker of life, and strangely the sunroofs seem to open themselves intermittently!
I will be in touch Roverloard to order a new water pump shortly LOL

but recently had that bother, replaced my alternator and the drain disappeared. must have been some diode fault causing the drain,

Is the battery a 100% dead cert no questions about it brand spanking new?
What may seem like a good battery may not be(holding charge).

Always start with the simple stuff before you delve into the stuff that is known to thin your hair out!

I reckon it's probably a bit coldish in the morning, up where you live?

fitted to Disco drove one minute down the road to local Mechanic and tested battery - 670cca test 100%
left it in his shed overnight completely dead next morning (was doing a wheel alignment)! and sunroofs had opened themselves!

Matt, maybe pull the fuse for the sunroof and check next day, maybe the intermittent sunroof opening is opening and closing during the night draining your battery? long shot though.

Do you have air suspension? if the system is leaking it might be running the pump draining the battery?

My TD5/RRC had a similar problem. after 2 years and 3 batteries later, was finally traced to one of the ECU bits not switching off to go to sleep.

Long day with the bonnet up.

Removed and replaced the exhaust manifold with a APT flattened and coated one, wurth M8 studs and copper nuts. Nearly went to plan, lower rear stud is spinning.

Pulled out the water pump and power steering pump. Water pump had some sludge and coolant in behind it, so I guess it was going to go at some point soon.

Power steering pump had been leaking for ages. Finally got around to doing that too. Actually not that bad a job. Didn't make too much of a mess swapping it out. I needed up removing the entire centrifugal filter and pipe. It made it a lot easier, with that and the AC pump out of the way access was fine and it just pulled out.

Sump was painful. I did it at my inlaws as they have a pit in their garage. It was still a PIA. The auto cooler lines were a pain to get around, but I got there in the end. Just sore and can barely lift my arms. With the lift and car jacked up, I was on tippy toes to get my hands on the bolts.

Hopefully, this will get me leak free.

Tomorrow, I have to replace the balance of coolant hoses and thermostat. harmonic balancer and seal and probably drill and tap the head.

I suppose it was a bit much to expect... After a month or more of it not leaking anything my D2 decided that if no fluids can escape it'll let air out of a tyre. And it's raining. And I have to go out. And the security nut key is in the toolbox in the camper which is closed up - at least I HOPE that's where it is.
    Rant over..
On a brighter note. It's been going really well and I haven't found anything that needs doing before we head off to Birdsville in a few weeks time.
    Cheers,

Mark, for what it's worth no one really steals D2 alloys unless you live in a real dodgy area with crackheads LOL, most of us have turfed the lock nuts and replaced them with standard non locking ones. Those keys have a habit of getting lost or they split and break, they are not something you want failing when you really need the,. Cheers, Mario
