indeed! this guy is the local LR specialist too. he reckons it would need re-sleeving that you don't hone these engines? does that sound right?

he's now saying the cheapest option is a new (2nd hand) engine. supplied and installed by himself of course.
the bores are laminated or something like that from what i recall and are not meant to be rebored etc but yes they can be,
if their is no ring lip then a quick brush hone and new pistons and rings while not making it 100% new will be a lot better then what it is now.

althought 300psi is not great a lot of things can affect it so i wouldent be overly worried on it, if it used a lot of oil and blew blue smoke that would indicate the engine is tired, also just pop ya breather hose off and check how much it breathes if its pouring oil mist out then its getting some blow by

thank you, it won't run so there's not much chance of checking that. prior to this it blew no smoke at all.

well if it wont run its not the lack of compression that is causing it

Not quite sure. Couldn't blow it out after I removed it. Just noticed pinion seal weeping when I was changing oils, so checked it and voila! Clogged up.

Not much, but bits and pieces have started coming in.

Picked these up today and my Akebono brake pads will be here tomorrow morning so I know what the weekends job is! Also got to install a fuse holder from the ignition spare terminal for the Strike phone cradle, investigate why the cigar lighter isn't working, and start working out how and where to mount my iCom IC450

I've been running the akebono pads for about 1500kms. rims are still clean. It is still strange looking at silver rims.
