Not thrashing it just 2nd low trying to crawl over a rock slipped and griped and bang (not a loud bang either more a pop) then the motor revved as there no longer any load. So I rolled back a to some level ground winch up and and had drive a again. Turn around and drove through the roughest parts on the track then lost drive again. So I was flat towed out the bush car makes a tinny sound when I put the transfer case in hi or low with cdl engaged and run through the transmission gears. Sound like a broken flex plate. I haven't got under to inspect it yet.

Thanked the Land Rover gods that nothing major happened with the computers in the car from the drowning it took at Wombat. Just threw a different code every time. So today saw all the drivetrain fluids changed with new filters to boot.

    How many km's on it?
with all that work done on the bottom end all ready would almost be worth doing a quick hone and a new set of pistons and rings

although id allmost be looking for a new mechanic

    it's done 330k.

indeed! this guy is the local LR specialist too. he reckons it would need re-sleeving that you don't hone these engines? does that sound right?

he's now saying the cheapest option is a new (2nd hand) engine. supplied and installed by himself of course.
