Nothing. Too busy being a good son in law![]()
looks like my fuel cooler is a different design to this service note
Managed to strip out the intercooler and radiator today... real pain trying to remove the rad without a fan spanner, but hopefully the one I've ordered will arrive for a rebuild next weekend
Dropped the sump too, really cant see how anyone can do this without removing the rad first as those steel pipes really do get in the way, after some effort found the only way I could actually remove the pan was by removing the steering tie bar and jacking the car off the springs to create clearance over the axle.... not sure if this is the book way of doing the job, but it worked for me!
The fuel pump bolt feels nice and tight, decided against actually removing it, but may reconsider this next week when I drop the sump pan next week to install a new gasket.
EGR components were nice and easy to remove, good soaking in WD40 beforehand may of helped, but its nice to see that they used copper coated bolts here, so absolutely no evidence of binding.
Whilst under the front end I noticed that the rubber on the steering knuckle ball joints is wrecked, so I reckon that's another job for the very near future
just need to wait for the new parts to roll in now, really don't want to revisit this area of the car again....ever!
alloy Rad
viscous fan
fan spanner
thermostat
EGR bypass kit
camshaft seal
sump gasket
need to look into lower coolant hoses...complicated by mine being difference from those available on ebay etc... and my fuel cooler is different from the one in rave......
have a chat to Mario at rovorlord (he is on ebay but if you order it through person message you get a aulro members discount and he is a top bloke to deal with) about the radiator hose's
oh as for coolant i got a 20L drum of cat red elc coolant for $100 down here at william adams so might be worth looking into
the oil pump bolt is worth removing just to make sure as it really is an engine killer
when you put the new sump gasket on check the new gasket at the rear does not have any raised sections a 2nd metal washer on the back the corners which stop the sump from compressing the gasket properly (a quick buff with grinder fixes it but)
the one i got from Mario did not have this issue.
if you dont want to visit it again do the auto lines while ya there and then you should be good at least 200'000km down their
took snowy to mount william (grampians) to see the snowy then went for a drive along the mount difficult track but a tree had fallen over it 3/4 way along so took the first road back to the main rd after turning around looked like it might be a little challanging.
And well ended up rocking crawling a hell of lot more hardcore then i wanted to do by my self but managed to pick a line down (would never of made it up) and even then it was hair raising and managed to know take out my sills ether.
so if anyone wants to go to the grampians and be shown somewhere i think you will need big tyres and front and rear lockers i have a spot for ya
only thing snowy did strange was after going to the snow and coming down got on main road big cloud of white smoke and diesel smell pulled over checked everything nothing out of the ordinary no codes etc and dident do it the rest of the day ???????
yeah they do but the landrover swag inside is crap so as the hose gets old they have a habit of blowing off or blowing past it and leaking a lot of oil then being a pain in the ass to change
Picked it up from the mechanics after having the injector copper washers and O rings replaced. Now need to keep an eye on the oil level - hope it has fixed the diesel into the oil scenario I had.
On the way home had an adventure - after 40mm of rain on what should be a dry road only, (was my first time down this road as well) came across a Holden Barina in the ditch. Winched them out, then had to tow them close to a Km backwards (no safe place on the front to connect to without doing damage)
They offered to pay but I said - no - people have helped me out in the past that refused payment. Then one of the other persons that helped out said "next time you are passing a Salvation Army store drop in and donate $20.00 then we are all square". I thought that was a great idea / response.
Used Brid's oil flush and removed the Penrite 20w60 mineral that did very well on the big Cape run and put in Penrite fully synthetic 5w40 and will see whether she chews it now she is run in....it did early on but we will see. New air filter. A general check of the underside and all looks gr8. Apart from baked on red dirt you would never know it did the OTT and all the corrugated roads. Great trucks.
Cheers
We'll still need to diagnose, but I lost all drive climbing a side track of Hope/Mt terrible track? Anyway a Picture tells the story.
