What happened to your Discovery 2 today?

What the?? This has only done 300km since the manifold was machined. I torqued the nuts to 20psi. That’s right isn’t it? I’ve installed a EGT gauge & have kept it below 700 since

    Hi John,
Did you de-web before machining flat?
Because if not this is why they warp in the first place.

You would have also taken material off the mating surface and now the space where the web is could be contraction the head drain plug at this location and not giving a good seal??
De-webbing will also fix this problem.

Is there a gasket? Can't tell from the photo?

Maybe try and re torque? Should be 25nm

Yes there’s a gasket. The guy who flattened it didn’t deweb but he did make room for the Welsh plug.

    Also, what’s this part?

Just a word from the wise (or perhaps that should be the freshly bitten rather than wise) - make sure you go with a good insurer. Check to make sure you have agreed and not market value. Even if it costs you a bit more.

I'll still hang around like a bad smell though and in a few years when I can afford another Landy I'll be back.
Sorry to hear that mate. Feel your loss.

I posted Photos several months ago.

The reservoirs are the same size. ACE and steering get half each.

Before I had a Land Rover I did not have any torque wrenches. Now I have three.

Made it to Burra and back for the weekend, just. Fitted a small catchcan like PhillipA's the week before, had done 200k's around town. Found oil puddle and low oil as I fueled up to leave. Had oil spots all over the back when I arrived. Then after a night run into Clare popped the front Cam shaft seal more oil everywhere. Bypassed the catchcan and leaks stopped. Too much back pressure I think.
