Replaced the alternator a couple of weeks ago and went to start after a supermarket trip and flat battery.... Only 8 months old Supercharge and has the red globe of death in the top of the battery indicator. New battery and she is charging at 14.2 volts and all is well. For now.... Got to find the squeaky pulley next!

    Don't discount the belt itself.
Brother had a squeaky belt/pulley issue a while back.
Spray a bit of water on the belt, squeak gone for a short while, then back again.
    Checked all pulleys, ran fine.
Belt is a new Dayco branded one.
Out of curiosity, we then took the new belt off and old belt on(old belt has chips and tear marks).... squeak gone!
So ATM he's running with the old belt, with the new one as backup .. till he gets another new belt(hopefully less squeaky!)

All these discos are giving me a heart attack!

Thanks for that piece of info. Only happens under load and by coincidence it is a brand new Dayco unit!! Will give the water spray trick a go and see what happens!
    Cheers!

My D2 got written off today by the insurers. So I'm landroverless for the first time in nearly 20 years. Can't afford to get another with the pittance they gave me for my old beasty.

Just a word from the wise (or perhaps that should be the freshly bitten rather than wise) - make sure you go with a good insurer. Check to make sure you have agreed and not market value. Even if it costs you a bit more.

I'll still hang around like a bad smell though and in a few years when I can afford another Landy I'll be back.

Is it not possible to buy the write off and repair?

I may or may not have test ridden it weekly to keep it going hahaha
But yer they are built proof this is the first of them 1981 and one family bike before me

    Bugger mate
Suncorp went to renew my policy and said my d2 was worth 6500 so I shopped around and found cgu the best for extra 200 a year it’s not insured for 12000
Great point to bring up and highlight just shame about your situation
