I had to when I got back to Canberra that year as the red mud was over 2" thick underneath!
The Oodnadatta track was closed, the road across to the Ood track through the Painted Desert was slip sliding all the way, I saw waterfalls off the rock, and carried it all home....
I blew through so many $2 coins at the car wash it was insane! But I reckoned I dropped 100kg of central Australian soil....

I wash my D2a and every other 4WD I have ever owned down Every time I venture down to the beach, launch the boat and when I get back from my numerous camping/fishing trips, Worst thing ever for 4WD's is to not clean all that mud, salt and other crap off them

When we got back from that trip I spent some hours of quality time with a pressure washer under and around the outside of the car getting rid of lots and lots and lots and lots of red mud which I do after every trip. It's the inside of the car that still has a load of red dust in it. That stuff gets everywhere and seems to ooze from all the little nooks and crannies for ages. D2's are not dust tight...

On that "Tracks Trip" we were going to stop at Arckarninga for a couple of nights but the Arckaringa creek was a bit iffy (50/50 chance of getting properly bogged) so we did a strategic about face and went to Oodnadatta. Good thing too because after the rain overnight the little creek crossing was about three km's wide according to one of the pilots from Wrights Air.
    Cheers,

Just stick 265/70x16 Mickys on you existing rims Rick. I think you'll be disappointed with the 18s.

If you go the 18" wheels it doesn't matter what tyre you use they as will be crap compared to a 16" tyre/rim.
I have MT P3's fitted to all 3 of my 4WD's and even have a set of MT Deegan's fitted to the caravan, Bloody great tyres

and I spend far more time on the black stuff than off road these days.
I also tend to drive briskly, and I could alway$ go two $et$ of rim$ and tyre$...

And a FWIW, I actually don't lose any sidewall height going from the current 235/70-16's to 265/60-18's.

See, I've done a really good job of justifying the bigger rims! What happened to your Discovery 2 today? What happened to your Discovery 2 today?

We all know I'll be very practical and go the 265/70-16 route, but geez the 18's look good.
