    Head gasket coming up.....

    Hi all

just finished ordering (hopefully) all the bits to replace the young blokes head gasket on the TD5, it's steadily been using more and more coolant so showing all the normal signs of a replacement needed so on order are head gasket kit with new bolts, exhaust stud kit (at least 2 are broken) new filters and the special socket for the head bolts, so late next week that's my little project. So far we have replaced the front drive shaft (thankfully only slight dent in the trans line) rear rubber doughnut thingy.. flushed the trans, full service with all fluids (just so we knew where we are) had the from fuel line from the FPR(?) come loose, used 40lt to travel 15km home (who decided to put the fitting in the most inaccessible place in the universe) EGR block off and a few fuses replaced.... Also now has a Bluetooth head unit
So far its been a bit of a father/son project....well I've enjoyed swinging spanners again but I think as a first car he's getting a bit over it, but I am sure once its sorted he will be fine and a qualified Disco operator

Really for a truck that has kicked over 300,000km its in really good shape, the auto is probably getting a little tired but everything else is very straight and sound.

I will post some pics etc once it's back on the road (and my phone camera decides to work again... funny thay don't seem to like swimming lessons

    cheers

Yep at 300,000km the head may be sketchy by now.

The other alternative is to buy an AMC head direct from Td5 Engine Parts for Land Rover | Turner Engineering

Delivery was less than a week to my door and significantly cheaper than off the shelf locally.
    Cheers

    Pippin,

Thanks for the offer mate, hopefully it will be ok. I don't really know the history of the motor, if it is no good then I will have to re-evaluate the situation. I see you are very close by, I'm out at Alex bridge way so not to far away

    Slunnie,

Hopefully it's ok, not sure I/we want to sink that much coin into it at the moment, number one son isn't a real car guy and isn't in love with the Disco (yet...) But I think if he gets into a bit of 4 wheeling he will grow to like it much more as its an early 2003 with the central diff lock so once he learns how to drive it I think he will show up a few of his mates with their old GQ patrols and 60 series cruisers

I also realized I should have put this under "What's going to happen to my Disco"

    Cheers

    John

Got up to drive to veterans health this morning, start Crumby and he responds with a constant beep about 1 per second , no codes on Hawkeye, no warning lights, I have no clue, I have found a couple of old posts but could not find a hint to where to look. Car feels and drive as normal, looking for a bowser on every corner

I had a similar, it was the TPMS or electric brake controller. Is the beep the same sound as always? The chimes? Do you get the same sounds when the door is open with the headlights on?

Hi the beep is the same always, about 2 seconds after the reds go on, the beep every second starts, different sound to the chimes, very similar to headlights on sound, I found that it does have a EBC, but never used, what would I check?

Pull the fuse on the EBC. see what that does.

had a play this morning and it seems to be the Hilo range neutral switch, I put it into low range and all quiet on the western front, checking it seems the buzzer is supposed to be on fuse 21, pulled it to no avail. Owen
