I see you have a manual boost controller on one of them, what PSI did you take it up to ? I was told no benefit going any more boost than what they come set at.
Yes, I checked all around the turbine housing, no leaks.

MBC's on both, only set at 24-25, noticeable on power and egt's , suits the tunes . Both have full size UK manual spec upgraded intercoolers though

Both the s208b's on those, suit the purpose well.
Will be doing an engine build ( TD5 of course ) with either s220 or equivalent later in the year, but along with the usual mods, along with full zf4hp24 conversion otherwise no point, should be fun

What happened to your Discovery 2 today?

I’m part way thru a refurb of my D2 Td5 and today I prepared some new glow plugs for installation . The original push on connectors had disintegrated and not wanting to fork out mega bucks for a replacement engine loom OR graft on VW / Skoda connectors (also mega bucks) I chose a simple solution using ring terminals and flange nuts. At just $22 for a M4 button die to cut a thread on each of the glow-plug terminals and the job is nearly done…

That's a clever mod, well done!

How hard was it to do the little nuts up in situ?

What happened to your Discovery 2 today? thanks but I can’t take credit for the idea as it is common on older diesel engines.

I will use a 1/4inch drive extension and socket to reach in and tighten the nuts.

Most TD5s will start fine without the glow plugs working - being direct injection, however that's not the only function they serve, they also help to heat the combustion chamber for cleaner fuel burn in cold situations, smoother running and also smoke reduction, there would however be a LOT of TD5's that have stuffed glow plugs that the owners don't know about.

You also might get caught out if you go out one morning in winter and it's -3° !

Yeah, I only pulled the relay couple months back, just in case I need to quickly reverse it.

But it starts/runs the same and when I had the head off the front four pots were cleaner, so in my twisted logic I figured it is easier to 'dirty' them the same than add a fifth glow plug !!
