Thread: What happened to your Discovery 2 today?

Nothing very exciting, just a little ongoing maintenance of things, a new shiny key fob off Ebay, about 10 minutes to swap the guts over into the new housing due to the loss of the button covers.

But the biggest bit was fixing the drivers door lock, I went to unlock it last week at the airport (heading home) and the door lock wouldn't unlock, tried the fob a couple of times, tried the key but it wouldn't stay unlocked (only set off the alarm twice ) ended up having to open up from the passenger side, once open it stayed unlocked. Once home I pulled the lock out (after removing the window regulators, mirror etc) had a bit of a look and a fiddle, nothing seemed to help ended up raiding the donor for its lock, so after about 4 hours of messing around everything is now back working as it should

as a side note, I am currently running a straight through exhaust system, not sure if it makes much more power or not but seems a bit better on fuel, a run from Margs to the airport and back (about 740km) I used 78lt of fuel, so a hair over 10lt per 100, pretty happy with that, I know it was mostly freeway cruising at 105-110 but for a 20 year old brick I'm not complaining, for comparison we also have a 2015 3lt Prado (also auto) on the same run it uses 68-70lt.

1/ I tightened up the 4mm - 6mm adapter for the SLS air bags, no more very slow leak.
2/ Fitted an aerial bracket to the roof rack at the front. It does add a horrendous amount of wind noise.
3/ The unlock button on the key fob is holey. I have a spare generic one, handy as the key had developed a habit of falling out. I have ordered a fake land rover embossed spare

After way too long procrastinating about where to run wires etc I finally just got on with it and fitted my Engine Watchdog

Also found one of the nuts and bolts on the front prop shaft had worked loose so tightened that up at the same time, I wonder if that was the source of one of my many rattles......

Can I recommend that you have a good hard look at that front prop shaft? Apologies if you already know this, but the front shaft is a known failure point and it’s a showstopper.

Well mine got sold yesterday.
after 9 years ownership I decided to update.
unfortunately I am not willing to join the 3 litre $25k prize lottery so have bought a 2018 zFord Everest Trend.
I love the 3.2 transit 5 cylinder for its torque and reliability and the fact that if something does go wrong it is cheap to fix being one of the most popular engines in Australia.

Not so keen on the pdf or the adblue but all modern diesels have them.
I might drop in now and again if somebody needs help.

Pop back in. I for one would be interested in your experience with the Everest. Son had a Ranger with that engine and loved it.

Installed on my other d2 is superior engineering remote res shocks front and rear and what a difference in quality and performance with 8 adjustments on the fly is amazing
