Thread: New Head Gaskets

Leaving nothing to chance I used a very thin smear (stiff bristled brush) of Loctite 515 flange sealer on both sides of steel plenum gasket. I don't want ANY air leaks. Cheers

OK ran an oil flush through it and draining now. Plan is to drain all night then put new Mahle filter in and Penrite oil tomorrow and go for maiden run. So far a total of an hour idling and no sign of any vital fluids leaking. Looking forward to test run.

OK maiden run after oil change. Running no thermostat at the moment and straight water to keep gaskets happen as they harden up (change to coolant next week). Takes a while to heat up but then 75 to 77 degrees at 70kph flat road. Then idles at 84. AC on. Runs very smoothly. Heaps more grunt (coil packs, leads and clean up etc). Pulled out of Shell uphill and did not drop clutch but floored it due to traffic and started squealing the 31's.... Cheers

OK so open road at 30 degrees ambient and 89 to 91. Running around town in same conditions sees 85 to 87 and idling in an underground car park with AC on and 62 degrees intake temp sits on 90 (15 minutes of idling). So all good I think.

I am convinced the 4.6 runs a bit hotter than the 4.0 too...it makes sense that the same block with same water jacket but producing a fair whack more power is going to have more heat...Cheers
