Hard to see in the photo especially with oil leak from the valley but there was a fair bit of dexcool OAT under there also. So it leaked Dexcool OAT and Nulon HOAT. Both slippery as the proverbial. These coolant types are so slippery I wonder how it stays put. I am investigating Penrite 10 Tenths racing coolant...anything less slippery would be an improvement. I mean it just has to stay in the bloody engine. Running cooler thermostat and good water pump (thanks Mario) and good radiator should mean the theoretical pressurised boiling point of OAT 50/50 at 125-130c is not required...

    Cheers

This is what 22,000k of slow driving in Hong Kong does. I just started using Decarbonizer...

Heads nice and hard and valves sealing well. No cracks. They are replacing the stem seals and dressing the deck...back today.

I have settled on Elring stock gaskets.

I am not into v8 petrols so I am probably posting something which is common knowledge but you never know. When working for Leyland trucks in the 70s the terrier light truck had a de-rated P76 v8,when replacing heads the mechanics would bolt down one head first then fit the valley cover to both heads before bolting down the second one, this stopped leaks and they stated this was the same in the rover motors

Thanks Pedro. Work is getting in the way of (clean not greasy this time) fun! Going to grab some Three Bond red RTV and a new exhaust bolt and start assembly on Thursday or Friday. Cheers
