    Probably not faulty.

The switch has about 10 degrees of rotation on it when mounted on the side of the box, and if it's out too far you can get a confused signal. The xyz switch outputs a grey code from memory, so only 1 signal at a time should change, in between fully in one state or another it creates an invalid code so the transmission controller knows that it is intermediate.

See the image I've attached. But if you go too far into 3 from D then you may end up with a mixed signal.
It's probably a really tiny adjustment - I think I posted a while back that probably the best way to do it is to put into Neutral with ignition on and then rotate the switch until it says R, note that position and then rotate it until it says D and mark that position. The best position should then be in the middle to read off N. It then aligns all of the switch contacts.
It may also be that perhaps the cable needs loosening and then retighten, it might just be holding the switch off a 'click', I can't remember if the switch is smooth rotary or notchy.
In any case, it's only a 5 min job - I think the transmission controller and BCU like to actually know the gear though.

Should have gone to that priest on the way out the Kimberley, the exhaust broke off at the flange on the right hand manifold 70km out of Kununurra😂😂😂😂! I'm just wondering where and how I could have run over an entire Chineese village and a flock of Albatrosses!!

V8? That happened to me too on our first D2. D1 don't fit, wrong alignment, so you will need a D2 downpipe to fix or someone to weld it.

    Arse.

Well, whatever goes wrong for you when you get to Darwin I'll see if I can help

Are you intending to include Victoria in your grand loop back to WA? If yes, then suggest you avoid the Grampians, as I believe they have a Halls Gap.

Thanks found a mechanic here in the caravan park he helped me reweld the exhaust flange back on to the pipe turns out it's been rebuilt and is a bit of a bodge job anyway. The mounting brackets have been removed that's what caused the failure, mismatching mufflers replacing the catylitic converters and no rear O2 sensors😡.

Lucky they are still there pedro but I can't fathom why the bodge up? Was the previous owner trying to improve somthing to do with fitting the 4.6l or just doing it on the cheap?
