Classic I think was in the 2004 model runouts. there was the classic town and the classic country.

I have the town, which basically meant, leather seats and steering wheel and plush carpets.

the classic country, had the tail light protectors (maybe the headlight ones, but I'm not sure) and I think rubber mats and cloth seats.

    We've taken a wrong turn

Hopefully I have just put in a link?
Now, assuming it worked what do you blokes think of it?
    Is it a "Maybe"?
It's early days as due to the coming Wet I probably won't be buying until February/March unless something excellent comes up.

    Anyways, any opinions?

for the money , you should be able to get a d2a (late 2002 on ) in good shape , this one will have no centre diff lock internals if late 2001, you would also want 16 inch wheels (better ride, more and cheaper tyre choices etc), that one has 18's . Obviously those things can be rectified but at more cost.

Having no experience with a D3 except when in convoy in club trips, I would still like to add my 10C.

To me the main thing you should consider is the reliability of the air suspension. On almost every Range Rover of NSW trip one or more D3/RRS has had air suspension problems.
On the most recent trip an RRS dropped on one side. Luckily the Club has a Hawkeye and they found it was the RH front suspension and that a Grub screw holding the air hose into the airbag had unscrewed and was lost. Luckily someone else had one. This was after only limited off road. Be a bit of a problem in Arnhem Land

The other big issue about where you live is the 19 inch tyres. One member did 11 between Sydney and Darwin. I don't for the life of me know how but there you go. You live on several hundred Ks of dirt to the nearest highway. Again on club trips it is always the D3 with 19 inch tyres that have a puncture. 2 years ago on the same club trip two D3s did tyres in the Tom Groggin area. One was on a track while the other was just on a normal dirt road.
A D2 on coils and with 16 inch wheels will not suffer these problems. I have never had a puncture on 16 inch BFGs in 30 years of using BFGs including KOs.

OK, I have found this one.
Expensive but it has all the kit + that I want & I haven't started to talk price with the bloke as yet.

    Some opinions please.

Town also had 18" rims, and hard spare wheel cover
    Country had 16" rims.

Looks OK on paper, would be worth a look at the receipts for engine parts replaced , ( was it oil pump bolt failure ? )auto trans services etc, ask if low stall heavy duty converter has been fitted at some point.

    D2 HSE

It's got a good history, you're not trying to resell for a profit, go for it.
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.

OK, after night of sober discussion with SWMBO I'm pretty sure I want this car.
Apparently it has had the gear box replace & a new head lining installed in the past couple of years also.

Anyway I am going to phone the bloke today to see if he can send me copies of the receipts for all the work done on it.

Now to ask for a favour. Would anybody in Brisbane be available to go & give the car once over? Maybe a test drive? Please!
The car is in Thorneside, Brisbane which is somewhere near Redlands I think. I don't know Brisbane.

If anyone could do this maybe send me a PM?

    Thanks

    Guess what I OWN!

This morning, in between running around the Roadhouse, I put a large deposit on the above linked 2003 D2 TD5!

A BIG Thank- you goes to V8Ian who very kindly went and had a look at the car, test drove it & then phoned me to advise that it was as advertised & a good car as far as he could tell.
This site has Awesome folks on it.
Ian also offered to swap his for mine - "I don't think so!"

So. I have joined the ranks of the TD5 drivers (or will be when I get down to Brisbane to get it) & my first drive will be the 2593km from Brisbane to Doomadgee, should be a reasonable test drive?
Oh, and just to annoy me it started raining today.
Thanks to all for you input & advise, & Ian, I can't thank you enough - when I come down to get the car (early January if it goes to plan) I will try to catch up for a cuppa or something mixed.
