I have seen on previous posts where owners have tightened a small hose clamp around the swage to stop it popping off.

Just my thoughts.... Plus my Mrs keeps nagging me about getting a caravan which may or may not happen so maybe the P38 cooler upgrade would be a good idea while I'm at it.
I think you will get a far better cooling result with something like the Davis Performance ATF cooler as it gets good clear air all of the time and works in series with your OE ATF cooler.

My D2 oil cooler hose upgrade

Had the hoses made up and fittings welded onto the old oil & trans coolersNew engine oil cooler hoses 001.jpgNew engine oil cooler hoses 002.jpgNew engine oil cooler hoses 003.jpgNew engine oil cooler hoses 004.jpgNew engine oil cooler hoses 005.jpgTrans cooler.jpg by a local shop in Alice in 2013 after the front had an altercation with an emu. Apart from the hoses I did all the work myself. Because of the 40++ days traveling with the aircon on I hooked up the oil cooler and old trans cooler in series to help with engine oil cooling. The after market trans cooler had been added previously.

Have travelled between Alice & Beltana (Flinders Ranges) down the Oodnadatta track many, many times, up the Strzelecki to Innaminka couple of times and no failures.

    cheers Pen

There are some good suggestions coming so thanks to everyone who's responded. One thing to bear in mind tho is that here in NZ we don't get anything like the same heat as you guys in OZ so I'm thinking anything more than a P38 cooler would be overkill in my situation.

True , why I mentioned my thermostat..

    also-

The gearbox cooler lines are a certain diameter, it is good engineering to have the cooler the same size tubing---

Thats basically what I had done at a Fluidrive workshop. Added an aux cooler inline with the factory cooler. Got the cooler supplied and fitted with a transmission service done for around half the price of the Davis ATF kit as a supply only.
