    No PC software for Evo
    Emailed Mattia as follows

    Hi Mattia

The Evo's are starting to show up here in Australia and are looking good with good feed back.

One of the questions being asked on www.aulro.com is if the Evolution is compatible with the original Nanocom PC software and if it will actually work with it.

Also, the Users Manual, can you advise when it will be available to download.

I am on the verge of ordering an Evolution but would like more information before I commit to it.

    Regards

    Hi,
I decided to cut the PC software because it cause me a lot of ptoblem.
It may seems to be something less than before and you can also think that I stop the PC software because I'm not able to manage it. It is almost true....
But since nanocom was born Microsoft change from XP-SP2 XP-SP3, VISTA and now WIN7.
I started with the COM and A lot of customer had problem with the adaptors...I was realy tired to wast time fo follow the Microsoft evolutions, and also MAC and LINUX customers was cut away.

I decided to put a nice display with touch, that allow an easy and nice usage.
I spent a lot of time in that interface, but now I think it can be very apreciated and it allow me to easily develope. Now that a lot of unit are in the hands of the customers many problems will come out, But the platform is completely designed by me so I know that I can fix all with short time.

Now Nanocom can be connected to all PC MAC and LINUX because it is seen by the computer as a removable memory device. You can exchange file maps and so on easily without install drivers and so on.

The diagnostc values are store in CSV format that can be opened with EXCEL and many other calculation and graphic programs.

The upgrade is very easy because you have only to drag drop files in the unit memory.

I tested the unit wery carefuly and I also fixed some bugs of the old units as the suspension plip programming.

Now I'm working to as V8 dor disco and PUMA and then I will make also the last upgrade for the old nanocoms(without the puma).

    Regards
    Mattia

    Cheers

Oh well, fair enough. Can't really blame him for not trying to keep up with every flavour of Windows, Mac OS and Linux variants.

The drag 'n drop approach makes it multi-platform and every O/s has programs that allow you to manipulate CSV files.

This is actually a positive step, as it will allow him to focus on system functionality rather than end-user device connectivity and user interface nuances of various operating systems.

Logical next step is for it to evolve from USB to a wired or wireless port and present itself through a browser as so many other consumer and industrial devices do these days. Then it will truly be platform independent... sort of... depending which browsers and app-dev environments it supports.
Just my 10 cents as an observer/participant of technology trends... (my day job).

    On a less positive note.
Damn shame that Mattia takes so long to respond to questions. I was/am interested in making Hard Range a distributor of Nanocom but if he is unwilling or unable to respond to enquiries in a timely manner then that will reflect badly on my own business if/when I need to escalate issues to him.

Last correspondence I received, he took over a week to respond and then it was along the lines "I'm busy... if I don't get back to you in a week, send me another e-mail".

Sorry, not good enough. As a supplier/vendor you need to be a bit better organised than that. Once you acknowledge receipt of a customer message, the onus is on you to respond.

All Evo owners should be on Mattia's mailing list, but if not, the latest firmware was released today. I have put a copy here for those who did not get the email.

After sending an e-mail to Matia one long, long wait with no response I have finally got some info. about getting a Nanocom Evo......Strangely though the response came from someone else.

Seems that Nanocom (Mattia) has gone into partnership (or taken over, sold out...who knows exactly) with a former competitor, black box solutions.

[url=http://www.blackbox-solutions.com/] has an announcement to this effect and you can also order a nanocom evo. from their web shop (under blackbox basic bits).

Moderators; note that I have NO affiliation with either Nanocom or Blackbox - just sharing information I have. If it's a problem please remove this post.

This development may address the customer service issues that so many people seem to have; freeing up Matia to concentrate on the technical side whilst blackbox to provide the customer support - guess only time will tell.

So having now ordered one I'll wait for it to show up.

How are people getting on with the ones they already have? This thread has been quiet for ages, is there discussion elsewhere or just no issues?

    Hiya Guys
Yea the Nanocom.it site content needs major overhaul and update which i am trying to fit in and should complete the main parts shortly

I just added a quick news item on the Nanocom.it site about the changes in line with what is already posted up about it on our BBS site. lest you think it strange nothing be mentioned on the Nanocom.it site yet

On behalf of Mattia, and myself, i can but only apologize to anyone who has written and got no response, and promise that things will now be very different in that respect

    Regards the NANOCOM EVOLUTION:
Blackbox Solutions is, and always has been, widely acknowledged as being the provider of the highest quality and most capable equipment for Land Rover vehicle diagnostics, albeit at a price that meant most could only ever look to our single vehicle equipment. In it's original guise the Nanocom 1 (COM or US did not even come close. However the Evolution is a world apart and offers a degree of technology at a price point that is totally un matched. Hence we are so willing and able to add it to our existing product line up.

Gee i hope you find the time to hire someone for customer service!

Hmmm, maybe then there could be an answer to some of the queries i have put on the BBS forum about certain functions not performing in vehicle explorer that i postedOn 22/9/2010 then checked up again on 29/11/2010, only to be told things are a low priority and not to do with diagnostic etc, even though my query was to do with checking ignition and starting systems through Vehicle Explorer.

Colin, i will continue to tell people to buy your gear, it is the best going, but your "customer service" is beyond woefull. From a customer perspective, the feeling one has is that we, customers, are a nuisance to be tolerated with only thinly disguised disdain at best.

    Hi Colin
I guess the big question is
1- if Mattia wasn't pricing the Evo to enable future expansion and support, is there going to be an increase in the price once you take it over.
2- when is it officially your product and when do you have stock
3- who is selling in the meantime and at what cost??

Mattia had stated fro the start that ability to interogate the ZF trans is planned plus with the addition of the V8, it's going to open up an extended market. However the concern is that there will be a premium for it.

I had plans to order one over the next few weeks from the UK agent as Mattia was too hard to get hold of but now this has me wondering what is going to happen and now how long I need to wait.

    Cheers

    Andrew.

Hey Andrew ... they offer some decent discounts for volume orders ...

Defender, Discovery II, Puma Licensed Versions - $442.52 w/o VAT

    1 to 4 Units = 0% discount
    5 to 9 Units = 10% discount
    10 to 19 Units = 20% discount
    20+ Units = 22.5% discount

    10 units at 20% off = $354.00 AUD + postage. It's a group buy opportunity.

You'd have to get them sent in pairs direct to a pair of purchasers to stay under the $1k limit though. 1 order of 10x shipped to 5x addresses.
