    A word of warning:

    Be careful flashing the modules.

I got carried away playing and I updated the transfer case control module and it lost its calibration.

While re flashing of any ECU typically contains risks and is really not something that anyone should do just for fun, fortunately the technology of CAN BUS vehicle ECU's is vastly more advanced than it's Predecessors to make it much more robust and care free.

On a D2, the only ECU that can be Reflashed is the TD5 Engine management. Since the entire operating system of the ECU including the code that contains all the diagnostic capability is held within the operating system that is being replaced, as many know, this means that a failure during reflashing for any reason can result in a non recoverable ECU.

As such this was a very bad design flaw on the Part of Land Rover.

As a result many may expect that given that with the later CAN BUS vehicles like the D3 in which there are now over 20 ECU's that Can be reflashed that the problem would be much worse.

However the CAN BUS technology is actually Ford Based, who thankfully have not made the same mistakes.

In all CAN BUS ECU's the base Diagnostic capability is provide by a Primary Boot loader that resides not in the Flash but in a block of Read Only Memory that absolutely cannot be changed, erased or corrupted no matter what.

As a second level of protection the CAN BUS ECU's also do not contain any code that is capable of erasing the Flash memory and might be accidentally ran.

So to flash any CAN BUS ECU, you have to use the base diagnostic functionality provided by the Primary Boot loader to load in additional Diagnostic functionality in the form of a Secondary boot loader.

This all means that in theory there is absolutely now no way that anyone can end up with any CAN BUS ECU that is unrecoverable as you once could with a TD5 ECU.

In practice, during development of our flashing software, not since the days of the TD5 have we had to manually reprogram the flash Memory of any ECU to start afresh, and now it is common practice for us to not even wait for the process of flashing any CAN BUS ECU to finish before yanking the plug. And in developing flashing for all CAN BUS ECU's, to date we have never lost even one.

However you do still need to provide a good power supply

Yep. I was just trying to get all my modules up to date, but since this is a new "toy" I considered it playing. I'm not blaming the nanocom or your product. It seems to work pretty darn well. Also the module still seems to work, it just doesn't know what it's limits are.

Do you know of any plans to add support for the transfer case calibration to future versions?

    Hiya Jafir
I am pretty sure that everyone will appreciate that it has taken a really huge amount of effort to Develop and introduce this all new CAN BUS coverage in time for Christmas at all, and so meet the hopes of so very many who have been very patiently and expectantly waiting all year for this, and that includes all those existing nanocom owners for who the fixing of their last few bugs has temporarily been put on hold.

Even although we have managed to get it to a releasable and usable state before Christmas, this was sadly not without sacrificing some of the functionality we would have liked to include from first launch a week or so ago or even the upgrades we have provided since, the latest being but BBS V1.15 released an hour or two ago.

We are just about to close for a well earned Christmas Break and will be returning on Jan 7th all refreshed and raring to go and will once again start releasing an almost constant stream of upgrades, one of which will certainly include a Transfer Case Calibration function.

In answer to your post about this on the Nanocom owners support forum, i have included more detail for you there

This product continues to be the best thing out there for enthusiasts. I also own a hawkeye, and while it is also a good product, your very first nanocom release that supports LR3 provides more connectivity with less hassle. Great work as always.

    Thanks for the response!

Worked late last few days, couldn't get to the Post for the package waiting for me. Minister of Finance had her work cancelled and did the honours, so a great little Christmas Pressie for when I arrived home today in the form of my new Nanocom.

Sad thing is my D2 is up bush without me as a mate from Ahnem land is down South and the Disco has gone walkabout with him.

Will have to wait until the new year now to introduce the Nanocom to its new partner.

Great packaging Colin. Thanks to the elves for getting it here.
