Ineos Grenadier, do you reckon it'll take off?

I know looks are subjective,but for me it does not look anywhere near as nice as a Puma 110.

I think many will buy it on emotion,just looking for something Defenderish,European,don't want something Japanese,for what ever reason.

Not knocking anyone,happy to see buyers buy what they want,the more competition in the class the better.

As for off road ability,looking at Rob Pepper's vids,it is way behind others when it comes to it's BTC set up.
i put the link up in an earlier post.

I sat in one the other day whilst talking to the new owner.
He'd just taken delivery that same day and was driving it from the Launceston Dealer back to his Hobart home.

Not sure if I could live with that huge "bump" in the floor right at the spot where I rest my left foot.
Wassit for? Exhaust pipe?

But otherwise quite impressive.
He said there has been 9 sold into Tassy.

The Grenadier is much more Gwagon than Defender. That said I wish them the best of luck with it.

I agree the front is a bit ugly but i generally like the lines, needs a lift as they seem to sit a bit low - set of 33's would help.

It’s already higher than an LC300 by 30mm - which is what commonly referred to as a 2 inch lift (I know it’s wrong but it’s about what a +2 kit raises an average vehicle)

It’s already running a 31.6” tyre. Which has constantly proven to be more than capable on things like D3/4 in a majority of applications. Throwing out gearing by going up sizes in almost every touring application just impacts performance and handling.


Sure, rock crawlers and the like are over tyred and such, but this isn’t this vehicles key market - it’s a touring unit and as such is almost perfectly configured for that task.


Lifting a vehicle gains clearance, sure, but that only has a benefit if you choose to push the next line of approach.
I’ve seen plenty of vehicles at stock ride heights touring all over the place, want of 30mm in a specific point under the vehicle has never been their limitation - it’s almost always been the driver.

I agree its a good tourer as is but a little lift never hurt anything especially with that front mounted damper that acts as a plow. And i will always go one size up in tires which usually has negligible effect on gearing.

Got me thinking. My Mrs could do with a "lift" here and there. As for going up a size,I think she anticipated the trend.

Just for clarification, the "bump"in the floor of the RHD version of the Grenadier is where the exhaust is located on BMW engines. It houses the Cat. converter. The "bump"is exaggerated to provide a sufficient thermal gradient presumably so one's foot isn't toasted...
Both the petrol and diesel versions of the Grenadier are powered by BMW (3L straight 6) B58 and B57 engines respectively ...no "hot"V [thumbsupbig].

The B57 diesel in Ineos tune, produces 550Nm from 1250rpm and with the ZF8HP760 auto, pulls like a freight train.
After 6,500 km, apart from the odd inconsequential warning on the central display (well known issues requiring a pending software update) I've had no issues (well they did replace the transfer case which had shown no symptoms ...as part of a 'precautionary' global recall! Dropped it off one morning, collected it after lunch the next day) . It's quiet, solid, extremely comfortable. The supposed "footrest" is to my mind a non event... but it's obviously an issue for some reason for many reviewers in the media especially, who may have driven it but are not owners...:bangin:. On the global owners' forum, I've not come across anybody who would swap the vehicle because of the position of the footrest in the RHD version!

The influence of the G Wagon is evident in the Grenadier because of the design work done for Ineos by the Magna Steyr engineering team who developed the G wagon... which by the way, according to various reports in the automotive press is soon to be phased out by MB except for the 'professional' version which will be available for military purchase only....
