if the plane crashed into the ocean there would be wreckage surely ? planes are mostly aluminium ? if it dropped below radar would this cut out the communication to the planes maker etc. that sort of stuff would go via satellite ?

But "Sea Patrol" is a real life documentary, isn't it?

She was actually talking about Border Security - the Customs Doco (shows real life fisheries and immigration interceptions) but then got confused when the Customs guys asked did she mean Sea Patrol the fake drama and confused said yes and the ridicule followed.

She was on the right track but then stuffed it.

Wouldn't some kind of electrical failure which disabled the conrols and communications be the most likely cause?

    Here's another example.
I sign into facebook on my phone, and I don't sign out. I leave my phone on.
I go to bed. Next morning, SWMBO is ****ty with me asking why I was on facebook at 4am.
I wasn't. My phone was still signed in, so it displays me as being online.
Hall hit the nail on the head.
If multiple passengers social media accounts are still being displayed as active or online, that suggests that whatever mobile device they're logged in on is still not only intact but functioning.
Doesn't mean that anyone is alive, or that they're just chilling on social media like it's all a big game, or that it's a myth.
It simply means the last device they logged in on is still operational.
Which suggests that it either wasn't a totally catastrophic impact, or they're not Jules Verne
Yeah, but you're still in a signal area and your phone is still on, whereas they would have been told to turn off their phone before takeoff at KL, I assume, and then have flown out of signal range, so the connection would have dropped out.

Not in this model of Boeing wre are about 10 back ups in case of failure.
Experts also saying that structural terminal failure is very rare so it would be interesting if something when wrong in the cockpit.

You can bet that some nuts are going to mention possible UFO intervention as the cause for the missing plane......
