Yep I reckon our system is drunk on looking after profits and not people. Unfortunately something sobering will probably happen to it one day soon.

Just look at what happened in the UK recently as a back lash against an unjust and unbalanced society.

I mean seriously... Our leaders tell us one thing and do another and we have no legal recourse other than to wait til they finish their term of destruction and then vote in some more liars (who are just looking to feather their own nests too).

We need a new system that refocuses politicians and public servants on the public good. Step 1. Make politicians jobs measurable and more directly accountable to their employers -the people. Step 2. Re-regulate Profit making industries to ensure profits come after people. Step 3. Build a new Public infrastructure to replace the privatized one that has been driven into the ground for the last 50 years.

Aaah if only it were that simple!
    Hoo-Roo,

    Dave.

Pay politicians what they are worth. I reckon $300 a day is probably a bit much.
We are getting a bit off topic here though.

Mmmm..into an underground mine? How about a clearing a minefield?

How about a copper, or a nurse? What 'worth' do we attribute to what they have to do?

How about being a soldier on operational service? Let me take you and show you what a Sapper has to do when he has to conduct a route clearance when there is a risk of IEDs....and being shot at?

Take my hat off to teachers, where would our society be without them?

Have worked in mining, albeit open-cast gold mining. It ain't that hard.

the underground guys earn thier money, but you wanna tell me a dump truck driver on an open cut mine should be getting paid $110k+ a year?

FWIW, 5.5 day, 42 hour weeks, and i get paid $46,800 a year.....for that, i have to drive nearly 40,000km a year just so i can afford to pay the rent and not have to share a house, and the only workday when i make it home during daylight is a Saturday

A dump truck driver on a mine is in a position where it takes little time to become competent (I was up to speed in under 3 days), a lot work even time rosters, anything from 4 on 4 off to 7 on 7 off, get 20 days annual leave and generally get paid over $110k a year for the approximately 1950 hours that they do.

In my position, it took me 6 weeks before the manager deemed me capable of operating on my own and had me working Saturday mornings, I've done 5.5 day weeks EVERY week for over a year (only paused when i got flooded out of work), I get 1.5 days off in every 7, and I do approximately 2184 hours a year..... for $46,800

not saying its wrong that mine workers get paid so much, but it irritates the bejesus out of me when you see stories of entire crews going on strike because BMA wont bump them up to $130k+.... maybe its time for me to go on strike.....

But that's your choice, sounds like another sob story of someone either, happy enough in their position, yet still wanting to whinge about others who sacrifice to earn more, or too lazy or not will to take a risk to change

To much travel?, move! Not enough money? Change jobs

    Supply and demand

    Geographic location

    Type of industry

These have alot more to do with it than the job itself, could be south African kaf..... And be getting 60 rand a week as house workers for your whole family, but really, it's not in the perspective of the conversation
