Hmm, interesting definitions of a confined space.
I have to do a SWMS every job and our rough rule of thumb for a confined space is one where you couldn't easily or feasibly get a rescue litter in or drag a person out readily.
I've questioned whether the big AHU's we work in are technically a confined space as they only use 3/4 size doors with a bulkhead, they don't go all the way to the floor and that's a really rubbery area.
We'll get away with it until something happens I suppose.

But our definition does not include a normal Coolroom or freezer room.

That SAPOL episode was a basic breakdown of OH&S, an alarm bell is a basic minimum.
If there was ice on the floor because of a drain, condensate or defrost issue the employer is liable.
    It's pretty basic.
    They haven't provided a safe work space/place.

It ain't brain science or rocket surgery, and everyone has a right to work on a safe environment.
I'm not going to comment on the stupidity of banning walk in freezers.
    FFS.

Going into a cold or freezer room, certainly isn't an area normally low on oxygen.

Right on, otherwise we Supermen (with or without a square jaw & bit on the side) would all be deaded.

It wasn't mentioned that I could see, what actually caused her ill-timed death.

As Rick has said, some of those large AHU's are definitely dangerous.

Once inside,if the fan starts or is running for whatever reason, the air pressure is often huge, and the access door is extremely difficult, and often almost impossible to open, from the inside.

We used to service a building where there were some huge car park exhaust fans, and the planet room door couldn't be opened from the inside, when the fan was running. These fans were direct drive axial, with blades over 2.5M in diameter. The mechanical services switchboard for the level was in the same plant room
Another fantastic engineering feat, with no regard to WHS.

Just thinking if they banned all the freezer rooms,i suppose they have gone to commercial freezer cabinets.
Oh well, they will definitely now keep the local fridgies busy.

I suppose that will present another problem of kids locking them selves in. I know, know, square one again.

In reality though the fuzz probably don't own all that many freezers as Echunga was a sort of Rural semi residential location for SAPOL Courses etc. I suspect most other places that had Cafeterias at Patrol Bases just had Cool rooms.

A bastard of a way to find out your shortcomings though.

    Re Plant Room.

Wtf did the designers/consultants think they were playing at with all that gear in the same location?

It is a wonder the sewerage outflow pumps & Fire Sprinkler Board etc. weren't in there as well. Eeerr they weren't were they?

They must be inward opening doors, but why?

Ah I know, they were all after- thoughts & they had to find a home for all that stuff. Gottit.

Wow, I don't think that wiring is compliant!

    What gas Paul?

and yes, no wiring diagram is BS.
We cop it occasionally on old sites, bloody frustrating.....

How the hell did that get passed with wiring like that? You have any electrical inspections when installing equipment or have to comply with the Australian Standards up there?

And what colour is the earth if green and yellow are active? 😉
If you need to contact me please email homestarrunnerau@gmail.com - thanks - Gav.

Queensland is a little different Gav.
Technically I'm not allowed to touch anything live when i cross the border as I don't posses a Qld restricted electrical license. (and that goes for the NT and WA)
They refuse to recognise NSW quals, but I can work in NSW, the ACT, Vic and SA all day long plying my trade. Not sure about Tassie?

I'm also not allowed to touch any refrigeration containing R290 or R600, they require a Gas Fitters licence, but I can work on and repair that gear in any other state legally. Bear in mind gas fitters know nothing about refrigeration and deal with low pressures.
I'm buggered if I know where they stand on R32?
    Go figure.....

R404a Rick, runs on vacuum when down to temp.

    With economisers,etc.

60KG per system,we filled one today.

No electrical drawings for a brand new system

    Gav,all packaged together,imported complete.

They have been told, don't worry, see what happens, but yes, wouldn't pass at all.
The earth is green with yellow stripe.

There is three of them on the site,16 refrigeration systems in total.
