Medical and industrial gases are now regulated from March, FFS.

So they flowed freely out of the cylinders before?

I hear you!
And licensing is only a small part of the compliance equation these days Des.
So much time is tied up weekly in client, H&S and in-house compliance that at a guess it has reduced weekly workflow to less than 2/3 (maybe only 1/2?) of what we used to get through. Companies are now much more top heavy, too, carrying a lot more admin.
Ultimately we're all paying for the reduction in productivity as that's passed onto the client in higher costs who passes that on to their customers, etc. staff are having less or no wage increases, and on it goes. Somehow we're still maintaining a higher standard of living and a good work/life balance compared to most countries OS, so go figure? (Fridgies excluded on the work/life balance thing)
As Rick said,its just madness.
The changes that have happened over the years are just rediculous, and have not done much except have caused a huge reduction in efficiency, and produce lazy Tradesman, many think they know what they are doing but actually don't have a clue.
Then we have the big companies around here that get the big service contracts, and can't attend to jobs,or if they can, send some no hoper that has no idea what he/she is doing. Its just a circus.
Or they think they know what is wrong, quote a huge price to do a repair(usually about three times what it should be),then we have a look and no that isn't really what is wrong. All fun and games.
Anyway, time to sign off,i just do a few services for the boys, the odd easy job here and there, that is about it.Some of the quotes as well, mainly the complicated ones, and help out on the occasional job.
Van is half cleaned out,2XMTB fits in easy,so all good.
And i pulled out the center console so the(new to us) dog can lie in between the front seats on a well fitting cushion, for when the Passenger seat is occupied.![]()
Hi Rick.![]()
Companies are now much more top heavy, too, carrying a lot more admin
Then that should equate to a more efficient business unless of course they get too top heavy.
Now, would I go back on the tools? Well I did enjoy my time & learning but also I was being paid for by someone else, remembering that they were much different days.
Today I probably wouldn't recognise a 1/2 x 9/16 ringy, usually used with much gusto back then. (I do actually)
In my own business for 40 years the incentive was "Money in my own bin" & not someone else's. & at that time a licence was required for refrigerant gas operations but that was all. . Leccy was covered by a B Class in SA just to be able to work on my home & serviced equipment & all other wiring was done by an A Class sparky. I don't recall ever paying for a B Class. Oh yes, Builders Licence just do duct work etc & that was never required to be shown to any inspector so a bit of a waste really. Make mine a Flat white svp.![]()
Spoiling dogs isn't the go at our place, its some old cushion i think it was part of my mothers estate. She is a Springer Spaniel,we lost the other one a month or so back..Bloody hard to get over losing a great dog,SWMBO is still grieving pretty bad,but the new one is helping and going good,so far.
There is a small old tin oven dish, which probably came from the same place, tech screwed in front of it for my bits and pieces.
Cleaning out sheds isn't really my go,mine needs a good clean out as well.Although i have gradually been giving any work stuff to the boys for storage in their sheds.
Surprisingly, the van goes so much better, and uses less fuel now it has had a clean out.![]()
